Intriguing start!

Everyone has guilty pleasures in life. Mine include naughty books, reality television, and made-for-TV movies which made this series irresistible to me! It had been recommended by more than one friend so I grabbed it (right before the blog I review for snagged an ARC for the finale, luckily for me!) for myself.

I don't regret the purchase at all.

There's something very fun about this book that comes from all the many, many subplots being mingled in with what is, ultimately, a very charming modern life.

Molly Woods is unique as far as heroines go because she's not a Perfect 10. She's a single-mom with stretch marks from having actually given birth to a child, a little girl named Stella who stole my heart from the minute she was introduced in the book, and she spends more time working on her career than her social life. She's working to finish up culinary school where she is harassed into going out with her boss, Drake Stagliano, and I completely bought her frustration with him in the beginning. There's a lot of comic relief in her clumsiness and Molly is certainly not going to be winning any awards for her acting since she's got a very bad poker face, but she's a character I could relate to easily. I liked her a lot.

Drake---oh, Drake. He's rich, handsome, every traditional romance hero right out of the gate until he starts to really get it handed to him by Molly who has more than a daughter as far as surprises go. I did enjoy him though I honestly didn't connect with him very much in this opening book since his POV wasn't really offered enough for me to bond with him on a personal level as a character.

The book did hold my attention. It was a fun evening read since it had more than just a romance going on between its pages. There were secrets that went a lot deeper than "Why doesn't she want to go out with the hot, rich guy?"

If Amazon would allow half-stars, I'd give it a 3.5, but it doesn't which lands this one at a 3 for me. There are a lot of grammatical failures in this which make it a confusing read; several times during the course of the book the tenses shifted so badly I wasn't certain whether I was reading something happening in the present, during a dream sequence, or in the past as possibly a memory? I don't know. It lost me several times. I would also note that it starts in what feels as if it is the middle of a story rather than the start of THIS story which I grew accustomed to over the course of the work. In its defense, this is a light read which could easily be cleaned up and it had enough plot and enough substance to keep me interested which meant I bought the sequel immediately after finishing this one.

I would DEFINITELY recommend reading the sequel before making a final decision on this series.

It wasn't what I thought it was going to be like. I liked it I just didn't love it. You don't get to know much about Drake and that was a bit off putting. There is more I was uneasy about but, all in all I finished it and that's saying something! I will be reading the second book for sure!

There was not a single part of this book that I liked. It was such a mess - not just with the story but the writing as well. The author switched from past to present tense like she was changing the channel on the TV. The transitions between scenes and between flashbacks were either not clear or not fluid making it hard to know what was going on. The structure was horrible and all over the place. Aside from that, we never get to see this amazing connection between Drake and Molly. It's just told to us -"we had a good time" "it was amazing". How are we supposed to see them as a couple? The only time they actually spend together is when they're having sex. Sex is not a relationship. Especially when it's not even sex written well.

Then there was Molly herself. What a naive, clueless, idiot. The only strong characteristic about her was that she was raising her daughter alone. But honestly, even that gets blown to hell when not even two weeks into "dating" (aka: sleeping with) Drake, Molly asks her daughter if she wants Drake to be her new daddy.

I have no idea how I even finished this book considering the dialogue made me cringe and I was ranting about it on every page.

So I found myself skimming through some of the chapters it felt like it was dragging on and on and then it got good in the epilogue.. I wanted more from the whole Kendra situation not just an abrupt ending to it.. I also want to see what happens with nikos next

This book was great, but I'm not a huge fan of love triangles. It was unexpexted, but all in all the book was written very well! Very intriguing so that it keep me reading. I can only imagine the craziness that will happen in the next book after reading the epilogue ahhhh

Meh.

I love the plot line for this book. The whole single mother aspect was different than usual but the pace was all off. I felt like it was all just happening too fast and I couldn't connect at all with the characters. Also, this book was super lovey dovey and not in an awwww kind of way. In a oh c'mon already, stopppp. One more thing I feel is worth mentioning is that thing she pulled like more than half way through the book, WHAT. I wanted to deck her through the pages. Aggressive, I know.

I feel like that ruined most of the book for me but I'm gonna continue on with this series and see how it goes.

I've been anticipating getting to this book. And while I was not the least bit impressed with Molly, I did love Drake!

Molly just seemed a little off to me, and while Drake was a dream, i can't help but wonder what was really up with him and Kendra.....

This was a super quick read for me. Definitely not one of my favorites of Brooke Cumberland but it was good. I really liked Molly, Stella, and Michael. One part of me really likes Drake, but an even bigger part doesn't. He seems too controlling but in an under the radar kinda way. Something about him I just don't like.
