The first half of this book is hilarious. I'm not sure if I only think that because I relate so deeply to the main character, who is a young queer girl deeply entrenched in religion and has no idea how social cues and rules work.

this book has been on my list of years so i was glad i was finally able to get it from the library, but I really can’t get into it.
I think I just have a problem (lack of interest really) with reading books that centre religion bc i had the same issue getting into ‘disobedience’

This was an insightful and thought provoking book on sexuality and religion. It was beautiful and inventive, showing the cruel and harsh realities of religion and that of bad parenting.

Not a bad book and well written but I couldn't get that invested in the story. I also think the meandering 'side stories' were a bit overdone and unnecessary, which resulted in a more disjointed and tired reading experience. I would still try another book from the author if I am to happen upon one, but I definitely enjoyed this one a lot less than expected.

lovely autobiographical fiction. the protag nist is someone well-rounded and carefully represented. I love the two-fold conflict with religion and the family and i think Jeannettes questions about god are very well expressed.

Really funny and easy to get into with some hard-hitting sections about family, religion and conditional love. Thought I’d be bored at the catholic side of it but the way it was written was so enjoyable
