I feel like there were so man nuances to the book that I probably missed but all of my modules here are making me confront my issues...specifically mommy issues (this one even related to religion) so its been ROUGH to say the least but I really love Wintersons introduction and their view on what it means to read and write.

"betrayal is betrayal wherever you find it"

Winterson has a knack for disorienting her reader in a nearly pleasing way. I want to say it's somehow akin to the writing of Gertrude Stein, but I'm also aware that I have no platform to build that statement on. Just more of a general feeling.

Winterson weaves aspects of her own past together with elements of Aurthurian legend and Grimm's fairytales. Her voice is interesting, yet distant. Worth reading, though if you were to read only one book by this author I'd say that her memoir, "Why be happy when you can be normal?" is the one I'd reach for first.

A strange and quirky semi-autobiographical work. There’s a very blunt and funny narrative voice which pairs strangely well with the heavy content.
