Enjoyable reading experience, I actually would love to revisit in a year or so to read it more analytically and not get swept up in the stream of consciousness and plot progressions. My third book by Otessa Moshfeg and I hope to read more soon!

The first 150 pages of this book are boring, repetitive, and borderline pointless to the actual plot of the book. Once you get to the part of the book that contains actual plot, it’s disturbing and vile as it’s supposed to be.
I was hoping that the author would lean into the ‘children paying for the sins of their fathers’ motif that she had going with Lee and mimic this with Eileen but that whole agenda was dropped for what I feel is a less meaningful, unsatisfying, and dull ending.
. Overall the narrator is unreliable and annoying and nothing felt like it came to a satisfying resolution.

As usual, Moshfegh knocks the wind out of you. Oof.

Each book I read of Moshfegh’s is shockingly different yet bound together by a dark psychological irony. 5 stars for the latter 25% of the novel, set up was too slow

es el segundo libro de ottessa que leo y nop, no es para mí.

Loved this. The voice is damned consistent and I love unlikable narrators. The ending felt a bit weirdly rushed but the rest of the novel was excellent.
