I'd say it's a 3.75 really. Solidly written, although the beginning seemed a little fragmented. Has a sense of unease which works quite nicely, although did feel emotionally detached in parts. Having seen Ringu (great) and The Ring (not so great), perhaps some of the horror was lacking for me as I knew what was coming. Enjoyed it though and will undoubtedly read Spiral...
