Although I am unsatisfied with the ending, Penny once again writes a solid story. Mystical and mysterious, the story unfolds. I enjoyed it and will have to wait until after my vacation to read the sequel.
I think this one is my favorite of the series so far! I cannot get enough of Armand Gamache and the Three Pines characters. I really hope there are more planned in this series! :D

Wow... just... wow! This is the fifth in a series I have come to love and yearn for. So comfortable, but also so deep. This time ripping your heart out.
I’ve read and enjoyed the first few Inspector Gamache books, but this one is on a whole other level. We’re back in Three Pines with peoples were sure we knew from the previous books. The story is beautifully written, but with an underlying strain of menace and deliberate malice. A brutal telling indeed.
I wanted to like this more! Just as the Gamache series finally had me, this book changed my mind a bit. I felt as though it was easy to solve and then just kept going unnecessarily. Could have been 200 pages shorter. When I’m waiting for a book to end, I know I can’t give it more than 3 stars. I’d just begun to feel like I understood the Penny fanaticism and now I’m not sure...
