Loved this one, actually read it instead of listening to it and that made so much of a difference.

A particularly striking outcome for Two Pines. It's nice to see things change, even though it's upsetting. Politically relevant, Canadian historical themes are well integrated into the plot and that aspect is very interesting.

This book was just too over the top for my taste. It gets on my nerves that, for instance, an artist has to be the best in Canada instead of just successful. This book was full of characterizations like that. The plot was convoluted and full of red herrings. The most disappointing part though was the ending. The motive just wasn't satisfying or believable

A mysterious hermit is murdered in Three Pines and Gamache and co. grapple with friendship, greed, and integrity. Penny successfully explores deeper issues in a compelling manner without sacrificing the narrative pace. Although the ultimate resolution is satisfyingly twisty, the underlying reasoning feels contrived.

I have feelings about this book, and I don't quite know how to articulate them. It's told well, but with a less than happy ending.
