"There's a dead body here that's unexpected. No, not as unusual as you would think" (not an exact quote but close enough to one mentioned about 3 times)

This series just keeps getting better and better, in my opinion.

Each book we learn a little bit more about each character in and around Three Pines, including Ruth, Peter, Clara, Olivier, Rosa, and some newer characters. This is what makes it for me. Penny has a real way of writing about people's faults and yet, she makes her characters so likeable. Sometime, it's hard to forget you're reading a murder mystery but yet, there is always that.

A thoroughly enjoyable series, I'm looking forward to continuing it.

A-ha, people kept telling me that this series hits its stride about book four, and I can see why. Much better, less bizarre plot and delves deeper into the backstories and psychology of the residents of Three Pines and Gamache.

This mystery blew my mind. Louise Penny went where I did not think she would go. I absolutely loved the psychological development of the characters and the integration of art and culture into the plot. This is a fantastic series, but you must read it in order! Read if you enjoy: psychological mysteries, cozy mysteries, Quebec settings
