DNF at 51% I forced myself to that..."Kay" is not a word that needs to be used every other page. Also, there is just no chemistry. None. It's a hot guy and a guy who doesn't think he's anything special and that's pretty much all that is talked about. Oh and they have sex. And the one guy is a grump. I can't do it anymore.

I stumbled upon this one randomly on Audible, and it turned out to be a cute, quirky MM romance. It felt very British in tone (which I loved as a Brit myself), and the narrator did a great job switching between English and American accents. The story was fast-paced and easy to listen to. Both characters are likeable, though Aubrey’s self-doubt does get a little repetitive. There are third-act hiccups, which I’m not a big fan of in romances, but overall, it was a fun, light listen with a HEA.

Okay, hear me out-Aubrey should make the whole place one of those themed book stores that focus on romance. Make it a destination.

Do not bring in logic into this experience and like just surrender to the fantasy. Yeah, this is a fantasy romance. People pleasing book worm get ravished by some famous guy that falls for him at first sight. Falls hard. Falls first. Someone check for a head injury.

It was kinda off putting how quickly things move at first. I put it down at like 8%. Then I had a commute day and it was already downloaded on Libby… it kinda goes hot and cold. The mc was kinda insufferable at times. Self deprecating and really conveys his feelings of stuckness.  Emotional whiplash, I tell ya.

The side characters feel plausible, rather than cardboard cut outs. It would be better If there was layer of friend group interactions, jokes, call backs. We also don’t get enough of the American actors thoughts, motivations.

My rating reflects the book as an example of its genre. It might not be something you go back to. But it’s an okay romance with some spice and pda. Like it was fine.

Gary Furlong is a fantastic narrator. This book is a bit thin on characterization but plump on feelings. I enjoyed it well enough.
