I have always loved Minnie Driver, and thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. She is a fantastic writer and narrator! It was funny to hear about how she got her Good Will Hunting role and met Matt and Ben. The chapter about her mother brought me to tears and I had to take a break. Charming, hilarious and heartbreaking.

Super quick read - poignant and lovely and I actually loved the haphazard feel of the essays, the zigs and zags of her life. The last essay about her mom made me CRY a little. Just beautiful.

This memoir was an unexpected delight. Driver has a lovely, contemplative voice. I wish it were longer!

What I read: Managing Expectations by Minnie Driver

Why I picked it up: I think Anne Bogel put this on a list of celebrity memoirs read by the author a few weeks ago.

How I read it: On audio at 1.5x.

What it’s about: It’s a series of 10 essays about her life, family, and acting. All read by her, which is why I picked up the audio book.

What I liked: I found her perspective to be delightful. I knew not much about Minnie before reading this, and it was interesting to learn more.

What I disliked: It wasn’t chronological and there were some parts where I wanted just more to the story about what happened next.

Genre: Celebrity memoir.

Rating & Recommendation: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and if you like celebrity memoir, sure.

Everything I heard about this book was true, it is so well written (I read a lot of celebrity memoirs so believe me). This brief peek into Minnie's world was great and I feel like I somehow know her better but also know nothing about her, impressive! Definitely recommend the audiobook.

The only reason this isn’t 5 stars for me is that I reserve those for the few books I know I’ll read again. I found Driver’s stories delightful and brilliant.

I had low expectations—I had just DNF’d a memoir I was listening to and opted to start this just for the commute this week (working in the office more than normal).

So funny and visual—the story of being banished for having insulted her father’s girlfriend was easily my favorite and I was very sad when the book time jumped in the next story. That essay in particular read like a novel and I hope Minnie returns to it and gives us a whole novel about that complicated kid, herself.

Borrowed this audiobook from the library's Libby app. Had no idea what I was getting into but enjoy a good celebrity memoir. This is not your typical memoir. Driver writes her life story in a series of flowery essays that read like fiction. It was really good in part because there wasn't so much focus on her career.
