Regan's story! The Hooflands! Horse girls rejoice! Intersex rep! The story just wasn't as intriguing to me as others in the series.

We love the intersex representation!!

Once again, I love the Wayward Children series. If you're looking for a slightly more grown-up (but not explicit or anything) series of fairytales, Seanan McGuire's short books will enchant you. If you were a unicorn or horse kid, you'll really enjoy this one. It felt more straightforward than the others and not much really happens, but in an enjoyable light-read way.

If you're going to pick up this series, I recommend starting with Every Heart a Doorway and then proceeding to whatever book you like, no order necessary!

This one taught me that I really cannot judge a story by its premise, because I loved this one! Again, another back story that had me feeling all the feelings. I also really loved the representation of having a character who is intersex in this one and how respectfully they were portrayed.

I love this series, and can never get enough of portal worlds but the execution of the in-between books that don't follow the main cast seem to have been a bit lacking. This has intersex rep, but nothing really comes from that thread. The ending also is a bit rushed and inconclusive, and didn't fit with the rest of the theming around destiny, which I liked the theme for the rest of the book. Sometimes these novellas could use a bit more time.

Gristle!!! And the warmth of the centaurs made me so happy. Also, I read Where the Drowned Girls Go immediately after this, and I appreciated the context around Regan's door.

I think this book made the smallest impact on me out of all the ones centering the characters in their respective worlds but was still far more interesting than any of the ones set in school. It was very quick, I loved the world and it made me feel like I was a kid reading some random middle-grade fantasy book I've found in the library. I feel the ending has been a bit too fast but it still broke my heart. A very solid part of the series.
