I'm not sure I actually read this book in High School. This is what my kids will say, because I see them blowing off the hard books for buzzfeed and binge-watching TV's "Friends" episodes. Now that I've officially read -- well listened -- to this book, I know what I'd missed. The sweep of the story is huge and the telling is luxurious, like a bath. But it's also told in a voice I don't believe. The 1st-person narration, within a narration, within a third narration sometimes is tedious and false. But the story is good. More gothic than I'd 'remembered' or known. Good winter tale.

great book, sad how alot of people die though

*Summary*

One day, Catherine and Hindleys father brings home an orphan boy, Heathcliff. Catherine and Heathcliff become very close, but Hindley hates the new boy. After some years, Hindley becomes the master of the house. He torments Heathcliff and makes him a servant. Heathcliff bears this until he hears Catherine will marry another man. Then Heathcliff runs away to plan his revenge.

*My thoughts*

The most interesting part of the book is that most of the scenes are told in Nelly's voice from Nelly's point of view, focusing only on what Nelly can see and hear, or what she can indirectly experience. Nelly often comments on what other characters think and feel, and what their motives are, but all of these comments are based on her own interpretations of the other characters. She is not a versatile narrator.

Also, I really like the issues that are being raised throughout the story.

Well, that's why I love classics literature. They have their own superiority. <3
