Absolutely amazing book! Hillenbrand creates a story that feels as if the reader were there with Zamperini. It's also an interesting look at something different from this period in history: POWs. Telling your story is difficult, and that's enough of a reason for EVERYONE to read this book. Don't let the mass or style fool you--it's a quick read.

What a life Louis had! I remember seeing interviews of him with Angelina Jolie. I thought, "I have got to read that book." It was even better than I expected. Read this book about a true American hero.

Absolutely fantastic. Everyone, everyone should read this book.
I enjoyed this book a great deal, and definitely recommend it. Louie's life is amazing, for sure, and what he endured blows my mind. It's also a great history lesson. I learned a lot about a portion of the Second World War that I'd knew virtually nothing about. Parts of this book are not for the faint of heart, but the story needed to be told. Not sure if I'll see the movie, might not be able to stomach it.
oh my heavens, such a brutal story. Unbroken is the wrong title; Not Dead would have been more accurate. its a testament to Hillenbrand's writing that I kept reading because it was brutal, brutal, brutal. Imagine Seabiscuit with all of the painful scenes and none of the glorious ones.
When I heard about this book I was really most interested in the "Story of Survival and Resilience" part. And I think initially I was a little disappointed in having to read so much about Zamperini's early life which I honestly did not find that interesting. However, after reading the sections about him being lost at sea and a POW in Japan I will admit that knowing about his early life was important to the overall story. I find myself generally interested in WWII stories, but I feel like I typically only hear about the European side of the war, and I really never knew much about the war in the Pacific.
The story was captivating and every time I put the book down I would feel compelled to re-tell what had happened to my husband because I found it so interesting. I am usually not a non-fiction reader, but this book was great in that it was both engaging and enlightening.
Edit: I decided to upgrade my rating from 4 stars to 5 stars. Distance has made the heart grow fonder. It has made me forget the initial really boring part and only remember the great parts of this book. I figure a book that really leaves an impression with me deserves 5 stars.
