Thank you for sharing this story with us. It was eye-opening and so well-written that it left no question unanswered. I am thankful to have learned of Louie Zamperini's life. Would recommend this book.

This is an amazing and horrific story of survival. The endless descriptions of torture were sometimes hard to read. Besides Pearl Harbor, I don't remember learning anything about Japan's role in WWII in history classes.

If there ever was a story that described the resiliency of the human spirit, this is it. The only negative I take away from this story is the harrowing experiences that Louis Zamperini had to go through during his tour of duty in the Pacific Theater of World War II, and survived to tell about them. Some of his experiences sound a little too unreal. Zamperini's story is beyond compelling. How does a person not come to hate in spite of everything he/she has been through? This book made me realize that it takes a special person with an enormous will and an even larger heart to not only survive, but forgive the crimes that other people have committed again you without apology. I see Louis Zamperini as someone we should all strive to emulate when faced with adversity: survive, and come out on the other side a better person for it.

This book was very inspiring and I could hardly put it down. The only reason I’m not giving it five stars is because there were so many facts that I didn’t feel connected to the characters. I know all the facts are supposed to give context but sometimes the facts seemed out of place. Otherwise it was an incredible story about a man who wasn’t broken even though he endured a horrible ordeal.

This is not really my genre. I read it for a book club I'm in and actually really liked it. I was gripped by the first segment where the men were fighting off sharks and starvation on a life raft and didn't think it could get worse... Then he was put into the pow camp. Wow. A great history lesson for me. I'm glad I read this book.

An engaging and unbelievable story from beginning to end. I was not expecting a description of such a "feral" childhood, full of exploits and pranks. Louie's racing career was inspiring, especially as I listened while running, and the description of the state of the WW2 Air Force was shocking in how many people died, especially not during combat. The account of their 47 days adrift on the raft was horrifying, only to be followed up with the even more harrowing account of his 2.5+ years in Japanese POW camps.

Wonderful book that was well written. I could hardly put it down.

Remarkable story, beautifully told. This really is a must-read. So many terrific life lessons in Louis' story.

Wow -- I couldn't put this book down.

An absolutely fabulous read. The story is fascinating and even more enjoyable because of its truth. Engaging from beginning to end.
