An amazing story that is very well written. Even my father, who rarely reads anything other than the newspaper, couldn't put it down.

I'd give this 3.5 stars. It took me a long 100 pages to get into this story, if not for a book club I might have given up. After the first 100 pages it does get interesting and becomes more of a page turner. The author did a great job with a wealth of information. It's well written and a great story.

Fantastic! Fantastic! Made my heart pitter patter for such a great story. I talked out loud so much as I read this book, gasping or holding my breath quite often!

Beautiful yet heart wrenching story about the man's survival from World War II.

I always love to read about WW2 story from fiction to non fiction, I really love the history behind it. Mostly i keep wondering and questioning after finished the book, what was good from war? Nothing! Besides lost life and destruction for just fulfill the ambition of the Leader and party. Why don't we just live in peace and harmony, respect each other.

After i finished this book, i come to the state where i couldn't believe that Louis zamperini could survive till the end, Because he faced so many bad luck, first fell from the aeroplane, struggling in sea with full of shark, for a long days and get captured by the enemy.
The book is so good and i really weep at the end.

Very good and interesting read of Louis Zamperini and his life. Whilst the story starts in 1943 with a bomber crashed into the ocean with Louis aboard, the story is so much more than just this one moment. The narrative was very easy to follow, more like a novel than just an autobiography and I got caught up with wanting to know what happened to him, and learning about his past prior to this point. I like how Laura covered all the facts with notations (and extra interesting facts etc annotated at the bottom of some pages). Didn't find it an earth shattering read, but still very interesting and I learnt a lot more about the Pacific and Japan and their part in the war.

So incredible. I took a while to read because it isn't written like a novel and I struggled to read such a research-heavy book at first. But this story is incredible. So far beyond belief that just when you think there can't possibly be any more to tell, you realize you're not even halfway through yet and you prepare for your mind to be blown again and again.

I loved this story and really liked the book.

I actually give this 4.5 stars so I bumped it up. Some of the scenes in the Japanese war camp were pretty horrifying and I really felt for these men. It was a small glimpse into the lives of these men who come back from war and the PTSD they face. Excellent book.

WAY too sad/horrifying

Ironically enough, exactly one month ago I started this adventure of Louis Zamperini's epic ride from his childhood to his passing. One month ago, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. And I'm sure a month before Louis got on the Green Hornet, he didn't either. The life of Louis Zamperini is one of the few stories that have the great fortune of being told among so many other soldiers whose stories remain a mystery (when they disappeared, what they did, how they died).

From his life moving towards an Olympic career to his capture by the Japanese, his story completely enraptured me from start to finish. Laura Hillenbrand does such an excellent job making this come to life. I'm usually not one for nonfiction books, but the writing style reads just like a novel. Every word adds great definition to the book and it's definitely one that's hard to put down.

I may end up writing a more in depth review later on, but for now I'm going to collect my thoughts and just stress that this is one of those books that just end up changing your perception of the world.

Absolutely stunning. One of the best books I have ever read.
