This is a great telling of Louis Zamperini's story. I recommend it to everyone who wants to see how the survivor of so many hardships and unthinkable atrocities can look back over his life of nearly 100 years and say "God works everything out for our good."
the story itself is crazy and inspiring.
the writing is often too dry and over factual for my liking.
this book is a perfect example of why non fiction and i are not always friends. the plot is so intriguing, but then the writing makes me forget my interest.

I give 1,000 stars to Louis Zamperini and his incredible, truly unbelievable, resilience. His experiences leave me humbled and speechless. I am also amazed at all the research Hillenbrand must have done for this book! That said, I couldn't quite give it five stars because I found the style of the writing to be a bit underwhelming.
Inspiring story about the life of Louis Zamperini. Gut wrenching but also does not lack humor, so nice when a book can do both.
This is an incredibly gripping and compelling read! The very definition of a book that will keep you up late because you don't want to put it down. I had never heard of Louie Zamperini before picking up this book and now, I am so impressed with him and his life. The amount of research that went into this book is staggering. Hats off to hillenbrand for crafting a narrative so intriguing and for making his story so compelling. Now I have to go see the movie!
This book was amazing, absolutely amazing... And when you realize that it's a true story, it's just even more amazing.
I found myself on edge throughout the book, horrified at all the things Louis went through in such a small time frame. A lot of things were hard to read, it's hard to imagine that some people could be so cruel.. but it just makes his story more incredible and reading the book so satisfying.
I recommend this book to everyone, especially if you like biographies. Shoot, download the first chapter from amazon... I was absolutely hooked by the first few pages.

A few spoilers: Recommended to me by several different people, I found that I really enjoyed this book. As you keep reading the harrowing tale of Louis Zamperini, you wonder how the book can keep going and how he can keep foraging along. But it does. Louis' tale keeps getting more and more intense as he moves from the Olympic village in Berlin to a bombardier training and fighting around Hawaii, to crashing amid the vast Pacific ocean and surviving for weeks in the open water and much, much more. There was a small tone shift towards the end when Louis discovers Billy Graham. The chapter gets somewhat religious, which would've been fine but it seemed to come out of nowhere compared to the rest of the book. This work of nonfiction was more exciting and plot-driven than much of the last fiction books that I've read recently. I would recommend to anyone looking for an adventure, an especially inspiring one.
Inspiring story + historical facts about WW2. A book that any age/gender would like in my opinion! Note: There are a few gory details in this book.
His torture was so extreme that it is even hard to read about, but it is true and hopefully will help us not to repeat our mistakes. The book Don’t give up, don’t give in is the perfect sequel to this book
