It took me forever to finally pick up these comics but I loved this one! I like that we get to see what happened after the events of the show and I'm excited to see what else happens :)
Minus half a star for Aang and Katara's constant 'sweetie's (they're cute but I agree with Sokka, they gave me the 'oogies')

highly recommend reading this if you've finished the show! it dives deeper into the aftermath and perhaps unanswered questions that the show didn't address
i love the fact that there was still so much that hadn't been solved after the hundred year war ended. loved the fact that it picked up exactly where the show ended. however, i wasn't a huge fan of aangs promise to zuko and how it escalated, idk it felt like the relationship had backtracked a bit
also the intro šš

3 stars.
- I think some of the character development that was in the show was lost in this comic. I still love the characters, I just wanted more from them.
- The art is great! I prefer the show over the comic books, but the art style works really well for Avatar: The Last Airbender in my opinion.
- The humor still comes across in comic format, which I really appreciate.
- I think The Promise was meant to set the rest of the comic books, so I didn't love this first installment in the series. (I liked The Search a lot more.)
Content Warnings:
Graphic: colonization, racism
Moderate: fire violence, insomnia, cultural appropriation
Minor: forced insitution/imprsonment, fainting, confinement

Listen, I loved being in this world again & it really felt like episodes of the show on paper but a couple things irked me. First of all, the sweetie & oogie stuff was unbearably cringe & felt very out of character, I know Aang & Katara are a new couple but it felt wrong. Also, this largely felt like colonial propaganda?? Maybe Iām just lacking nuance in my read of this but it did not sit entirely right with me .
