Amazing art and story capturing the feeling of trauma and loss while imbuing a sense of magic and wonder. Extraordinary work.

3.5

Another coming of age sort of comic. It's short and engaging enough to read in one sitting. I would have rated this 5 stars, but the main character is very stereotypical outcast, and the story gets very heavy handed. Despite its shortcomings, I still got a little teary at the end.

Simply a beautiful read. It conveys a lot of emotional depth for the protagonist, especially in only about 45 minutes of storytelling.
I wanted more. In the best way.

I Kill Giants was so well done. I loved Barbara, a teen who wears rabbit ears to school, is a Dungeon Master for her D&D group, and just so happens to possess Coveleski, a hammer suited for killing giants. I’m definitely picking up the next volume as soon as I can get my hands on it!

A dark, painful little series with heart. However, the mix of heavy and loosely sketched art was not to my taste, especially when I had to stop, think, and interpret a panel.

Good, but A Monster Calls does it better.

When I asked fellow teen librarians for suggestions of books with "feels" (ie that make them teary) for a book display and list, this was one title that was mentioned. I am not one to easily cry at books I'm reading.

This made me cry.

Skillful illustrations and compelling story combine for an artful reading experience.

This is a beautifully written and illustrated book. I would highly recommend it.
