slow-paced
2.5 stars. The story overall was ok, but the pacing just felt really slow. I debated DNFing a couple of times, but ultimately opted to finish it (obviously). The ending is satisfying, it just takes a lot of patience to get there.
- Life is a series of unexpected plot twists; the best stories come from embracing the chaos.
- In a world obsessed with perfection, sometimes the quirks are what make us truly shine.
- Being true to yourself is like wearing a neon outfit in a sea of gray—daring, bold, and absolutely unforgettable.
- Friendship is the ultimate form of self-care, a reminder that we don’t have to navigate life alone.

I love Lily Chu’s books :’) This was focused around company diversity training & racism in the workplace, and the ending was very satisfying lol. Cute, quick read
I was eager to listen to this as I loved Lily Chu's earlier book, The Stand-In, and Philippa Soo's performance of it. And while Soo was once again a stellar narrator, I just wasn't captivated enough to finish it. I HATED the female MC's mother and all the toxic positivity she planted in her daughter's head. And I kept waiting for Dee to tell off her mother, her racist relatives, her bosses, her clients. And Teddy, the male MC, wasn't much better. They were both biracial and both stifled by their white parent, and it was frustrating as hell. I sympathized with them, but wanted the titular takedown to happen faster.
Fabulous examples of racism and microaggressions in the workplace. The romance was kind of a given with almost no conflict or buildup.
I appreciate the elements DEI, humor, fashion, Paris, libraries, and need like qualities.
Knocked another one out of the park! I loved Dee and Teddy's journey (figuratively and literally). Also, after three novels, I really want to visit Toronto! Can Questie be real yet?
Wayyy longer than it needed to be, knew the way it would end about 1/3 of the way in, needed slightly better editing but was fun with good characters
