This was very informative and fairly reflective, but read like a sort of documentary, even quoting TedTalks the author had. The medium is a comic, so I was hoping the author could utilize that with a bit more dialogue with his family and with the others at the camp. The little details were very heartbreaking, and the author does state he wants to inform the reader about the history, but it does detract from the biography aspect. Still, the overall story is emotional, about an aspect of history that barely gets taught, if at all.

Seeing the Japanese American camps after Pearl Harbor through the eyes of a child who can reflect back as a adult was a good way to introduce this material to younger readers. Well illustrated, this story sucks you in with your heart clenched, even though you know George Takei makes it through.
