Waittt tbh I really liked this LOL 4.2/5. There’s just something about a seemingly insane and deranged man being different for just one girl that’s gonna work for me every timeeee. I love that from the second he saved her he was obsessed with her but in such a soft way. Like he never really caused her harm and just wanted her safe. I also love how she saw the humaneness in him and help him during times she didn’t have to. Like it’s so sweet just her speaking to him like a human while he was in his zone out state got him to snap out of it, and that she wasn’t afraid to help him cuz she wanted to slowly help him get better. And we see just how much he improves during the epilogue. He had so many moments where he just seemed like a little boy who wants love and I loved how she saw that and wouldn’t let him degrade himself. This was such an easy read but still interesting and I’m happy I read it. Would prob reread again if I’m in the mood for the hate everyone but you trope.

Spoiler summary:
Angelina Sandoval is the daughter of a Mexican cartel lord. His partner, Diego, murders him to take over the business, and thinks marrying Angelina will help things go smoother. After starving herself for days to protest, her Nana helps her escape by sneaking on a drug shipment to the US. The shipment gets intercepted by the Russian Bratva, and Sergei saves her before he blows up the truck. He immediately is attached to her and demands he brings her home. As she’s recovering, he realizes he recognizes her as the Sandoval daughter and tries to figure out why she’s lying. He also realizes she can snap him out of his PTSD zone outs that cause him to go manic. After speaking with his boss and making a promise to stay, they start to fall for each other and she helps him through his episodes. Diego ends up finding her and makes her come back to marry him, or else he’ll kill Sergei. So she leaves him a note and pretends she’s leaving him, but his sidekick Felix finds out she’s in Mexico, so they go to save her. They end up saving her and her Nana by killing Diego (his dog Mimi mauls him). They then go back home and he asks her to marry him and the epilogue shows them with a son, and Felix and her Nana are together

He saved her from the drug truck and demanding brought her back to his place to heal: “I move the sleeping girl so her head rests on my shoulder and rearrange the blanket I wrapped her in.”

She hasn’t even woke up yet and has already calmed him from a manic episode: “The need to destroy something, anything, overcomes me as rage keeps building and building within.
The girl in my arms stirs and moves her head to the left, burying her face in my neck. Her breath on my skin feels like butterfly wings. The flashback fades.”

“ Tilting my head back, I stare at the ceiling and listen to her breathing, then I try to sync my much faster breaths with hers. The girl’s body twitches, and she coughs again.
“It’s okay. You’re safe,” I whisper and tighten my arms around her.”

Teaaa he clocked her: “Because her name is Angelina Sofia Sandoval,” I say. “She’s Manny Sandoval’s daughter, Roman.”
“You’re shitting me.”
“Nope. I have her photo in my folder on Manny from last year. I didn’t recognize her right away. Her hair is shorter now, and the photo was old, but it’s ”

“Okay.” I head upstairs. “But you should know one thing. I’m keeping her, Roman.”
“What? You are not keeping her. She’s not a fucking stray you can just claim as yours.”
“Of course, I can.”

“Call me if she says anything.”
“Sure,” I lie. I have no intention of sharing anything Angelina-related with him because I plan on dealing with my little liar myself.”

He’s always one step ahead it’s cute: “No more running away today,” I whisper.
“Okay.” She nods, without removing her eyes from mine.”

Oh his ex wife was a secret plant that tried to murder him in his sleep

Ugh period: “I don’t like child molesters.” I raise the gun and shoot him in the center of his ugly mug.”

“There is something about her . . . something that makes my demons sleep. I don’t remember the last time I felt so calm in someone’s presence”

He trusts her so naturally, like deadass asked if she was a spy and believed she isn’t when she teased him and pretended she was

She could’ve used his zone out time to escape and run away but she wanted to help him snap out of it instead: “Carefully I reach out and place my hand on Sergei’s forearm.
“Hey,” I say and squeeze him lightly. “Can you look at me?”

She talks him out of his manic episode but the second he sees Felix he snaps back into it and strangles him but she’s able to get him to shift his focus: “Come on, big guy. You promised me a sandwich. I still need to put on at least ten pounds to look like a human being again.” I smile a little and extend my hand toward Sergei. “I don’t know where you keep the bread. Please?”
Slowly, Sergei unwraps his fingers from Felix’s neck and turns around.
“You’re missing way more than ten pounds,”

“He wasn’t choking me. If he wanted to kill me, he would have snapped my neck.” He turns to look at me. “I think he was keeping me away from you.”

I love how freaked out Felix is over how well Sergei responds and reacts to her during his episodes

“I would never put you in any kind of danger.” He brushes my chin with his thumb, and instead of pulling away, I have to fight the need to lean into him. “If you’re afraid of riding the bike with me, we’ll take the car. But, I’d like to take you for a ride on my bike.”

Not Roman blackmailing her to stay at Sergei’s house for 6 months LOL: “I need you to stay with Sergei and keep doing whatever you’ve been doing so far.”
“That’s ridiculous. Why would you want me to stay there and do nothing?”
“Because, my brother seems to have an unexpectedly positive reaction to you being there.”

“The man who’s been teasing me, who carried me around because I was tired, who bought me nine different body washes because he didn’t know which scent I would like . . . who saved my life . . . is a professional killer?”

“ I reach out, take Angelina’s hand, and the pressure in my chest subsides.”

“My demons are somehow afraid of scaring her, so they withdraw when she is near.”

“If I’m right, and Sergei for some reason thinks he needs to protect you, he won’t be reasonable.”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, he will kill every person he feels may be of any kind of threat to you. Real or imagined.”

A delivery man accidentally tripped into Angelina and it caused Sergei to black out: “. I ignore it and bend my head until I’m face to face with the bastard who hurt my girl. He must die. I move my hand lower until my fingers are wrapped around his neck and start squeezing.”

She jumps on his back to snap him out of it by being physically close to him

Her hair appt is taking so long he’s panicking she ran away but really he’s just impatient when he’s away from her: “I’ve kept an eye on the entrance the whole time, but maybe they have a back exit. Shit. I leave the car and rush inside the salon just as Angelina emerges from the left-side hallway, and the panic that’s been building dissipates.”

“What did you want me to say?” I ask as I pay the salon assistant.
“How amazing I look?”
“You looked amazing before we came here. What have you been doing in there for almost four hours? Watching Netflix?”

He literally puts Roman on speaker so he can keep hooking up with Angelina in the car

This literally reminds me of Natasha and hulk 😭 "sun's getting little low, big guy" 🤣
