Still funny, but the series slowly is starting to lose its magic.
The Shakespeare quotes shouted out randomly (because it makes you look mysterious) are really funny. There are some real gems in the chapter numbering and there is a fun reference to one of the mysteries in the Wheel of Time series.
The story is slowly getting a bit darker and I think Sanderson slipped in shades of grey regarding the morality of the characters. This is cleverly done.
But the constant addressing of the reader has its limits. Re-using jokes starts to be annoying.
As mentioned, some of the jokes are clever and funny, but dosing the humour is an art.

Alcatraz is back and purposefully putting himself into the line of fire in order to help another kingdom. He's beginning to get a handle on how to manipulate not only his own talent, but also the talents of his relatives. Along the way he discovers more about what both his parents are really up to.

I borrowed this ARC from the teen librarian where I work as I'm always eager to see what is new with Alcatraz. He's up to the usual tricks of changing chapter heads, talking directly to the reader, and generally being a pain. (Don't bother skipping ahead to read the last page Alcatraz is on to you!) Although I've heard this will be the last book it definitely ended in a way that left room for more entries.

I love how this book is silly--even sillier than its predecessors (acting out the book, quoting Hamlet, weird chapter numbers, "stoopid"), and yet things get more serious and Alcatraz is even more reflective. More of the magic system is revealed, our assumptions are flipped on their heads, and everything is set up nicely for the final book. Laugh out loud funny!
