What a wonderful book full of heart and beauty. While the first Fairyland was full of potential, in the sequel it all comes together.

A whimsical return to a land of rules, shadows and wants. For all of its darkness, October shines throughout the story.

But strangely after exploring more of Valente's work while waiting for October's latest adventure, I developed a taste for something a little bit darker and grown up.

I'm going to have to go back and update my review of the first one. There are just so many inherent truths written into this adventure about love and growing up and all neatly packaged into the kind of book where you hardly realize the profound effect the words are having on you. Valente's style of writing grew on me, like I realized the magic of childhood but only after I stopped being one. It's probably my heart's fault, children being heartless and whatnot.

And the ending. I'll hold off on the spoilers. But the fact that the book ended that way and the next one isn't sitting at home waiting for me, is a serious problem. Hurry up UPS, I needs it.

And if you didn't read the bonus chapter with the wyverary having tea with the narrator, you missed out on something so quintessential, I want to plaster it on my nonexistent library's walls.

It's hard to live up to the first book, but this was still wonderful and I can't wait to get my hands on #3.

although I still thought this was a very good book, I thought it lacked some of the lyrical fun quality the first book had. This was seemed a little...darker....I'm not sure.

I loved reading about September's new adventures and the new characters she meets. Fairyland never gets boring, really, does it?

I really enjoyed the first book -- although I think the writing and tone are an acquired taste -- a few friends who I thought for sure would like did not. I, however, did, and am enjoying this second book, too.
