What an amazing book!!! This has to be the most thought provoking book I’ve ever read.
We see how the system failed our main character, not  that it’s and excuse for his behavior but it causes you to feel sympathy for him and really understand his story. None of what he did is justifiable but I was able to feel sorry for him and acknowledge the fact that he was a depraved human being, who did wrong things, he sought for help but he wasn’t given any.

The last chapter made me cry honestly because I couldn’t bear it, the what could have been, the only if, the unfolding of the impossible. Oh goodness😭

There were sections that worked really well, and it gripped me, but a lot of the big swings it takes are total misses and feel pretty wrongheaded.

WOW. This was one of my most-anticipated new releases of 2022 and it did not disappoint. The author is masterful at making you feel deeply for every character (yes, every single one) in a just-over 300 page book. Though serial killer Ansel Packer is at the center of the story, the alternating narrations of the women in his life are where the bulk of the story is spent. I was riveted by each woman’s story and felt that the author really developed each character to be multi-layered and real. Somehow, at the end of the book, I felt empathy for everyone, including Ansel.
