This book surprised me in a good way. I was a little unsure about a romance between (essentially) a robot and a human, but I actually didn't mind it. Was it my favorite part of the book? No. There is definitely a part of me that thinks it would have been a lot more interesting as a platonic relationship. But I did enjoy a lot of the themes in this book, and thought it was a very fun read.
I had some some trouble with the start of this book, but that was mostly because I really couldn't always follow what the characters were doing and why. Sometimes it felt a little too obvious that a sideplot existed only because the author just needed two characters to be in a certain place for a while, but once I got used to the characters I stopped minding that so much. The 'twist' wasn't really too surprising, but I did really enjoy it even though I saw it coming. Abel's story was just very well written in my opinion, and I enjoyed Noemi's character too. I liked that we got to see both sides of the war between the planets and understand the motivation of both sides. It wasn't a black and white conflict, and I have a feeilng it'll be explored a lot more in the future.
I just don't really understand the ending.
All in all, it was an amusing scifi book. Sometimes the reasons for characters having to travel certain places were flimsy, but the places they traveled to were very entertaining to read about so it's not hard for me to forgive that. The romance was a bit meh, but I did enjoy the slow build of the relationship. I just kind of wish it wasn't romantic in nature.

I get that it was supposed to be dramatic and a bit tragic, but was there any real reason Noemi couldn't bring Abel back to Genesis with her?All in all, it was an amusing scifi book. Once again Claudia Gray does not disappoint!! She builds some of the best characters I have ever had the privilege of meeting. So excited to start another trilogy by this author!! Loved this so much l purchased the second and third book before I got even halfway through!! Can’t wait to follow these characters to the next journey.

This was a DNF for me. My daughter asked me to read it because she said at about 30% in it got weird. And so I read it, got to where she was and agreed with her that it was getting weird.

I don't normally like Sci-Fi (I'm all for space fantasy, but standard Sci-Fi just... isn't for me) but a friend gave this book to me as a present, and it's been sitting on my shelf unread for a while. I considered giving it away without ever reading it, but since I wasn't in contact with that friend anymore I decided to give it a try, at the very least.
And I'm so incredibly glad that I did!
I still don't think Sci-Fi as a whole is for me, but I enjoyed this book so much! I finished it in a single day, I was just so drawn in. I loved so many aspects of it (the worldbuilding, the characters, the romance which has only just started, et cetera). I will most definitely be reading the other two books, and I can only hope that they don't let me down!

I didn't give this one stars because I'm just not sure I liked it. Good characters but sci-fi is just not really my thing.

Science fiction isn't usually my go to genre of choice, but the humanity in the characters made this book hard to put down. Can't wait for the sequel to find out where the characters go next!
