Slow at the start but sped up and became a quick read at part 2.
I didn’t enjoy any of the characters but I didn’t see the twists coming

Vaguely disturbing, a mix of Normal People & The Secret History
I was drawn to this book by the cover and plot and I wanted to like it, but there was not enough action for my tastes. I kept waiting for a reveal that took way too long.
The plot was good, the characters seemed interesting, but maybe not fleshed out enough. It seemed to be bordering on gothic in atmosphere. The most active scene was The Pig (no spoilers - you'll recognize it when you get there), and if the momentum was sustained for the rest of the book it might have worked for me. I couldn't reconcile the age group (young college students) with their actions (entrepreneurial and dark).
My disappointment might be with the book being classified as mystery/thriller when I would probably call it women's fiction, although it had some very dark moments.
I do appreciate the opportunity from NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, Bantam to read this advance reader's copy.

…. Meh. 2/5. Not creepy enough for me and it was extremely slow.
Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House for allowing me to enjoy this arc in exchange for an honest review.
This was so challenging for me and I did not have an enjoyable reading experience which sucks because the cover is gorgeous and the synopsis sounded so appealing.
This was touted as dark academia and that is just not the case. They were hardly ever at school and the events that unfolded had little to nothing to do with the academic setting.
Nearly halfway into the book, I realized that I still did not feel connected to any of the characters and since the plot was moving so slowly, there was nothing holding my interest. All of the characters were either so dull/unimportant that I didn’t care about them at all OR they were entirely unlikable to the point I didn’t care to know them better or what might happen to them.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
All opinions are my own.
I thought this book had a ton of potential and an interesting premise, but very poor execution. It seemed to wander off in random directions at times and the plot was very clunky. Threads were started and then abandoned, which is super frustrating as a reader. I finished it but I question why, as the big twist was real meh.
I would not recommend this to others.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group- Ballantine for the ARC!
