Well written and exciting murder mystery. I enjoyed the characters and found some to be very unique. I basically had to skip over all the Swedish references to people and places, but it wasn't a problem with understanding the book - just a difficulty with it being a translated novel. *occasional strong language
Some blatant Mary-Sue business, an oddly protracted third act, and rampant editorializing kept me from loving this book. But it is saved by strong characters and a wonderfully compelling plot. Worth a read. Not much else to say.
Really good, although some aspects were unsavory and left an unpleasant taste in my mouth, but I guess that's the sign of a good book, it leaves an impression.
I don't get the hype.
The book was good, sure, but it took me over 150 pages before I was even slightly interested. And then denouement came swiftly and bam, it's over!
I may have liked it better if it didn't illustrate, so graphically, really disturbing violence to women. It's one thing for the bad guy to be really bad..it's another thing for our heroine to suffer unimaginable horror.
Perhaps I just have a weak stomach (or, uh, eyes), because this was definitely too much for me.
Won't be watching either movie or reading the further books, I just can't sleep at night with those images in my head!

It just wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I felt like it was just trying too hard. A lot of the problems could be due to it being a translation.
Left me wanting to dive into the third one right away. More accessible (to me) than the first one. Lisbeth's will to live is pretty amazing, especially considering what she's been through. Even with that, I did find the end where she 'comes back to life' a little hard to believe...but that's not going to stop me from continuing to read her story.
Other reviews have covered this so I won't go into it a lot...but it's amazing how we cheer for the anti hero. She has her own brand of morals which many can agree with but I have a hard time justifying vigilantism...but the book seems to support that idea that if our systems that are in place don't take care of the bad guys then we have to. I do believe that bad people will get what's coming to them at some point and we may never get the satisfaction of seeing it.

3.5 stars? I guess?
I love financial books. I've read plenty of them. But the beginning setup of this book almost stymied me. After slogging through that, the actual mystery was entertaining. I was squicked out by all the violence against women (though I loved Salander's revenge). Lisbeth herself is almost superhero-like, which was annoying, but her inner musings were way more interesting than Mikhal's. I'll read the sequel but I hope it doesn't start so boring.

Same strengths and weaknesses as the other two.
