I have been going through Reid's books in no particular order and since I always love her books, I don't look at the descriptions before I begin. How this managed to be the first book I picked up after the passing of my father-in-law is one of those universe jokes that I know will make me smile in a couple months later, but now I am still crying. I spent the entire book thinking about my in-laws and the love that they shared; how they got together when they were 17 and now at 57 it was never going to be enough time. How I have already been with my husband for almost a decade and how we are still at the beginning. I'm also a librarian, so there's that.
This book took out my heart and stomped on it in the best way possible. Greif is an uncaged animal on the best of days and the emotions that Reid is able to portray are raw and powerful but also beautiful. She is one of the few people who I feel can explain those emotions through the eyes of a character where I don't find myself yelling at the pages. She is able to make their minds make sense even when nothing does. Even still there were moments where I had to physically walk away for a few minutes before returning, but that was more about my emotional capacity than her writing.
I am a believer that sometimes if you don't like a book its just not the right time. In this case, there couldn't have been a better time for me to read this book.
