This was a unique historical fiction book since it was set in the post-WWII era. Eleanor and Patricia are so real... they're likeable at times, and at times you're like "what the heck are you doing?!?" This book made me sad for the prejudice that exists on so many levels in our country. I rated it a little lower because some of it felt a little YA-novel ish and other times adult themes just wrapped up neatly with little to no explanation.

solidly mediocre - fine for a brain-relaxing throwaway novel and a cheap storyline

Based on the description, I was expecting more of a historical fiction book. The story was still great, but I wanted more of the context of post-war America based on the description. Overall a very enjoyable read with great characters!

I really enjoyed that this book was told from the POV of two different characters. I loved hearing about old NY, and how different it was back in 1947, and yet still oddly the same as it is today. I adored the character Eleanor and felt a deep connection to her. I didn’t want the book to end.

I really enjoyed reading this book and yet...
Its interesting to me that the author took a false name for writing this book and I ? why she did that.
anyway she has told a tale based in NYC and near there in 40s. It concerns the way Jewish people were regarded by some (or many) in that period of time. that is an important theme of this book
Another important theme is the world of the privileged and then there is the issue of these men taking advantage of women not in their privileged circle and also women in that circle.
There is a lot to this book to think about and all of that made for my high interest in reading this
This is also a tale about relationships. The main person Eleanor Moskowitz that is the one issue I have with this book. Something about this character is "off". I know the author pseudonym Kitty Zeldis wanted to create a vital character and yet she missed an opportunity...
Why? Eleanor's quickly giving into men who were taking advantage of her and not growing there is my Issue about this book. It that behavior did not fit with the character the author was developing. So where she could have created a main character with more depth she failed to do that...
