It is a funny Christmas story. The rhythm and rhymes are great when you read it aloud.
I almost flubbed with this one: In my eagerness to establish Grinch lore into the household last year, I had neglected to establish ol' Kris Kringle as Christmas's one true patriarch. So it was a bit of a scare when my toddler expected the Grinch to ransack our living room while Santa's joyous gift-giving was an afterthought.
We've corrected course this year - heavy doses of SANTA SANTA SANTA then hit the kid with some Grinch and Ebenezer Scrooge for good measure. Show him the magical properties of Christmas through these grump-a-dumps-turned-holiday-neophytes.
Parents, here's a pro tip on how to introduce parts of Santa lore:
- FIRMLY establish Santa and the magic that comes with him ([b:The Night Before Christmas|196970|The Night Before Christmas|Clement C. Moore|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1388370094l/196970._SX50_.jpg|3043272])
- Introduce challengers to the Christmas spirit (Grinch, Scrooge, etc.)
- In later childhood, address the conspiracy of Santa ([b:The Polar Express|420282|The Polar Express|Chris Van Allsburg|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1638557399l/420282._SX50_.jpg|1045364])
Shoot, forgot I was reviewing a book.
The Grinch animated special is pretty much the book verbatim except for the songs. I'll leave it to you if you want to impress your kid with some "dahoo dores" for dramatic effect.
My only complaint is the ending: Too quick and no consequences. We spend dozens of pages observing wretched villainy then, boom, the Grinch is nice for two pages. That does not leave a positive lasting impression on the children! Secondly, he should have not have gotten to cut the roast beast. Them Whos were too generous and should have forced him to watch and sit out. Otherwise, what is to stop an even WORSE Grinch from having his humbug?

Little too early to be reading a Christmas book but I had a bad week and I missed Dr. Seuss.

Believe it or not I had never read this book before now. What a fun read! I love the old Dr Seuss books with the rhymes and whimsical characters. Great for all ages!
This is, together with [b:Green Eggs and Ham|23772|Green Eggs and Ham|Dr. Seuss|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1468680100l/23772._SX50_.jpg|86934], my favourite [a:Dr. Seuss|61105|Dr. Seuss|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1193930952p2/61105.jpg] book. The magic and joy of Christmas are palpable, even seen through the Grinch's eyes, who needs, above all, to be loved and accepted. A thoroughly heartwarming book that I re-read every Christmas as I watch the movie!
Perfect Christmas story for any age. Story is quick and fun to read, pace moves steadily, characters are fun and lovable.
Så vackra illustrationer och blir bara så mycket mysigare av att den är skriven på rim. Bör verkligen läsas av alla barn på julen!
I have a strange obsession with Christmas for a non-Christian.
