A really earnestly well-written biography from one of the most interesting political figures of the 20th Century. What a life he lead!
I just finished reading this book. I really love the way Nelson shows no hatred to whites even after the way he was treated. He sees that in order to have true freedom we must not oppress other races. He saw the value in both blacks and whites that I believe a lot of organisations around today don't see. I feel that a lot of organisations today want to oppress the race that they believe took their freedom but Nelson shows us that this is not true freedom. It is quite a long book but a very interesting book. I may not agree with everything Mandela believed in such as abortion but I respect what he has been through and how he came out the other side to eventually become president.

Not in the mood for something this dense. I'll come back to it another time
Great book. I learned a lot about the history of South Africa.
Interesting to learn about who Mandela the leader was and where he came from. Tediously long though and not the greatest writing
Powerful. Mandela’s and South Africa’s story are inspiring and thoughtful.

I don't usually like biographies and such - or politics either - but I found this one really easy to read. I think it also helped that although I was very young in the 80s, I still remember enough to be able to relate to many of the events described in the book - and recognise many of the names mentioned too. I did find that it provided some interesting insights into why certain things happened that previously I was not aware of. I think it helps provide a more rounded view of our country's history for someone who was previously on the 'right side' of apartheid.
