“Love cannot bloom hidden away in the shadows, Raphael. Eventually it will wither and die.

DNF @ 37%

I feel like I've read a thousand pages in these 37% . The pacing is very sloooooooow with nothing really happening.

I'm not invested to know what happens. I can take a guess though so I'm throwing in the towel.

The closest proximity I will ever get to K-pop. I started this book because a mutual on bookstagram was reading it and i was intrigued by the cover. I love a rockstar romance, and the fact that it was queer was all I needed to start reading. I feel like this was definitely inspired by one of the real life K-pop groups and the authors favorite member of said group, which is a liiiiitle bit weird and maybe problematic, but I also can’t really judge too harshly. I ended up loving the romance. It was a good length for me, and there were places where the writing was really good. It does suffer though from having an American main character written by a British author - not always a bad thing, but here, there were writing choices and dialogue that bothered me, times when Raphael said something or phrased something in a way that an American dude just wouldn’t. And there were a couple plot things about the story that I would’ve changed. But overall i did really enjoy this, and I would probably read it again.

Gahhhhh I loved this. Adored. Achingly so. I love Raphael and think the relationship development was done so so well.

I want more. Or neeeeed more. Cannot wait for more MM from this author.

I have mixed feelings. I'm rounding it up to 4 because I was really into the story, but the last 15% kind of ruined the rest for me, so it's actually a 3.5 stars.

It's rare for me to be invested in a book where the relationship starts off as instalust/instalove. In my head, it just doesn't work, so I tend to DNF these type of works. However, I think this one worked for me because of Jaehyun's fame. I felt that Raphael's infactuation with him was real, because as someone who's been into kpop for a long time, there is a pull that idols have with people that I genuinely can't compare it with anything else, like magic.

Starting with the things I enjoyed: I love a guy who is down bad for the one he loves. Besides his obsession (which some comments might think is creepy but hello? Jaehyun is an idol, of course people will obsess over him), the couple had chemistry and their development was intriguing. While at first it was mostly lust, the author made their feelings believable despite the short time and added actual development, which isn't easy to pull off. The whole 'secret' thing was exciting as well. Lastly, the dynamic between Jaehyun and Jihoon? I need more, part of me wanted them together instead, sorry Raphael.

Now the things I wasn't into: first one being, of course, that Raphael wasn't more honest and told Camille faster than he did. I feel that Camille's reaction was too calm (she deserved so much better), and should've punched him or something, her reaction wasn't realistic unless she had never been in love with him, which didn't seem so to me. He was also such an hypocrite when he found out about that. Then the

truly took me out.

However, the thing that bothered me the most and the reason the book got a bit ruined was how Raphael got it too easy at the end, everything worked out too perfect but it wasn't realistic for me. A kpop company supporting a gay idol? Camille and Raphael being friendly right away after everything? Jaehyun risking everything? For a book that tried to portray realistic sides, it really failed in the most important aspect: Korea's society and their reaction.

I wish this book had at least 50 pages more because the end was too rushed. If only it was longer, perhaps those issues could've been solved and it'd be the 5 stars book I thought when I started reading.

ngl i've read better pieces of literature on wattpad (yes, i'm definitely talking about my BTS fanfics collection)
