Wow… this book was everything. Raphael and jaehyun story was beautiful and painful at the same time. But I truly loved this book so much

DNF at 33%. MC1 is obsessed with MC2 (K-pop group member) to the point of creepiness, based purely on physical appearance, where it almost seems to fetishize MC2’s feminine nature. The description of MC2 makes me feel like he’s some dainty beauty with a dick and doesn’t seem to have personality aside from accepting MC1’s advances. This setup is still ok, but the kicker is MC1 cheating on and ignoring his finance over his physical obsession with MC2. She did nothing to deserve that, so it’s really hard to root for the main pairing.

Obsessed. I told my friend that this book is “literally glorified fanfiction and very smutty (and also desperately needs a copyeditor) and i couldn’t put it down” and her response was that that is “the most positive review ever”

and honestly yeah. yep. yup.

I absolutely love Raphael & Jaehyun. They made me laugh, they made me cry, they made me contemplate my life. Just ugh, so good. (But desperately needs a copy editor)

Sometimes I go into books fully knowing that they're going to be garbage but I still do it and then I get a little bit annoyed at myself for reading garbage. But you know sometimes garbage is what one needs. I had a bad day and I just wanted to get under the covers and read something silly for a couple of hours, give some rest to my mind.

Now, this book has very little going on for it. Fanfiction-y prose which I detest, very unrealistic portrayal of human relationships and feelings (seriously, this guy could get hard looking at Jae literally standing around doing nothing; I would consider calling an andrologist or something), characters about as complex and interesting as a sheet of plywood. I mean, Jae could have been an interesting character, but when the author doesn't manage to achieve that potential in like, almost 500 pages, there's an issue. The love story is... I mean. It literally goes like this:

- A sees B minding his own business
- A decides B is so insanely hawt that he spends two years of his life obsessing over the idea of fucking him (despite only ever being into girls - good heavens! - though this does not seem to trouble him)
- 2 years later, A magically meets B, who magically falls ill from the same uncontrollable lust virus the MC caught
- They fuck
- Literally one or two lines where they have generic conversations about their interests and "oh wow he is so interesting and easy to talk to this is so nice"
- Some bullshit convoluted drama that only serves to keep A and B separated just because I guess
- Happy ending because Yaoi Jesus died for our sins and we shall no longer suffer on this Earth thanks to his sacrifice

Like. I get the whole love at first sight thing, but these guys must have talked a total of... I don't know, like 5 times before the MC decided that yeah, he actually had never been in love before and that this is it. And seriously, he gets hard every five minutes at his boyfriend literally doing nothing. It stops being cute after the 3rd or 4th time, after that I start being legitimately, medically concerned for his well-being.

And, this book does that thing I really fucking hate where it's like "I have never liked men, just him because he's special teehee :3".  The MC has been straight for his whole life, has never been interested in men, is not attracted to men besides his love interest, I mean... Such a tired, boring, unrealistic trope. Did Jae shove cocaine up and around his asshole or something? WHY! Why does Raphael care so much, how hot can this guy be?? I get that I'm a lesbian but seriously is this even how people work?

That being said. I still read the whole thing because the other book I'm in the process of reading is fucking Oblomov and, as I said, I have not had a forgiving day.

I think I liked this book even more the second time around. I wasn’t nervous about possible plot twists that would pull them apart and annoy me. Raphael is so clearly in from the get go and his unwavering commitment was such a good part of this book. I think I appreciated Camille more this time around too and what an understanding and forgiving person she is. And a really good friend.

It's fantastically written. But there was a vibe. I had a bit of a weird feeling about it and went looking for comments and reviews. That's how I found out about the infidelity which is bad enough already but the
accidental pregnancy
? Noooope. I'm out.
