This book was enjoyable once I got past the commentary about what the main character eats to cope with stress. There was a little too much emphasis placed on that aspect of her personality. Otherwise it was a cute cozy mystery that could have been more interesting but was a nice light read.

So, I think I'm discovering that mystery is a genre where I am okay with the protagonist being the wittiest and smartest person in the room. This protagonist is...definitely not either of those things. She is very easily flustered and spooked in instances where I just wanted her to have a smartass comeback. She doesn't even really solve anything and events just kind of happen around her. I don't think I'll continue with this series right away, mainly because the idea of being in this character's head for any longer is exhausting.

I want to read more cozy mysteries because this was a fast and easy read in the best way. I'm not sure if this one the best, worst or typical of the genre. I have to read another cozy mystery for a challenge so we will see!

2.5 I didn’t love it! I didn’t enjoy this book enough to give it 3 stars but 2 isn’t fair. I mistakenly started the 2nd in this series and then went on to read them all in order. I’m glad I did that because I didn’t love this first one. And I think if I started here I wouldn’t have proceeded. So I’m glad that happened. It was fine just not 3 stars GOOD or 4 stars REALLY GOOD like some of the others. I liked getting to hear the origin story, but overall found the plot a bit dragged out and some of the antagonism to be a bit over the top between characters. The other books in the series are much, much better. So while I didn’t love this, I really like the series and am glad I read the other books.

Cute little cozy mystery. Love the setting both at the lighthouse and in a LIBRARY!!

Who would not want to visit a library in a lighthouse??? I really enjoyed this book, but I found all the grammar mistakes distracting. I hope that they do a better job editing the second one in the series.

On rereading this, the grammar mistakes were still distracting and I found myself questioning the first edition Austens---wouldn't there be more books as they were published by volume and not as a complete book.

Other distracting questions -- did the library really loan things out to tourists who are only in town for a short period? The description of the library set up was confusing as well.

Found the characters enjoyable, but now that I have read her Sherlock Holmes series-- there are quite a few similarities, especially, the rare book collector poser and the love triangle. Will see what happens in the next book before I make a decision to keep going or not.

Short Review: Corners in a lighthouse? do tell how that works. I didn't hate the MC, but didn't really connect with her, which is strange since she lives in a freaking library and likes to read, idk, just something about her. The story was okay, books go missing in a library that doesn't really have the best security, not surprised. I didn't know the dude did it til he said he did it, just really never guessed he would have been the one to do it. Thou if they just trusted the cat, it would have been over quicker. Didn't like the "romance" either, the MC is falling for two different guys, again, not surprised, most books seem to want to do that, but nothing really came from either "date", we'll see how it goes in book 2.

Misc.

Book Boyfriend: Pass
Best Friend Material: The MC i guess.

Audiobook

By Book or By Crook is the first in the new A Lighthouse Library Mystery series. Lucy has just moved to the Outer banks fleeing a life she decided she didn’t want (nothing dramatic just dying of boredom) and has taken a job as an Assistant Librarian at a unique library, one that is housed in a lighthouse. The hiring of an outsider to work in the beloved library is the subject of tension in the community as much as the new first edition Jane Austin exhibit is the subject of excitement. At her debut party for the library, an important board member meets his end and Lucy’s new friend and boss Bertie is suspected. This drags Lucy into the case trying to clear Bertie’s name. There is also a theft side plot that is just as important and intriguing as the main story line. I loved this opener to the series. Lucy’s character was strong, but not perfect. The petty jealousies of the local (insiders) are well done and entertaining. The cast, as a whole, work well together and are an engaging group of personalities. There is a more realistic feel to this cozy than some of the more over the top story lines and characters in other cozies. Really well done series opener and I am looking forward to reading more in the series.
