At the beginning of this story, Ayna was being held prisoner and needed to try and find a way to escape.
At the end of this story, Ayna is still being held a prisoner, and needs to try and find a way to escape.
Literally, everything that happens in this story - which isn't really a lot, but which seems to take a lot of time - and we end up in pretty much the same position we were in the beginning, except the pieces have been moved slightly forward or backward on the board.
I mean, I know a lot of second-book slumps have the same issue, where the second book is more setting up the finale than telling a story on its own - but now I'm seeing that this series isn't a trilogy, and reviews for the next book are saying it's a lot more of the same non-movement.
I'm seriously debating about whether to bother continuing at this point, because, y'all, this book was boring!
Aside from the whole "not much actually happens", you also have the "main couple being apart for most of the book", and also the continuation of the over-writing from the first book, where every sentence of dialogue is accompanied by 5 pages of internal monologue.
I still love the idea of this story, even though my husband has pointed out it's a bit generic - I really just love the whole crow-fae thing, because, like, two of my favorite things? Yes please - but, like, ugh. You're making it so hard.
Oh, also, the whole thing where Myron runs headlong intoan obvious trap because he smells Ayna's blood is just, ugh. So much ugh. Like, yeah, they're mates and yadda yadda, but dude is a leader of a blood-thirsty group of fae, and can't think tactically past the smell of blood to the point where he gets his small band all captured stupidly?
Ugh.

I absolutely loved diving back into this series again. The world of Eherea is so intricate and well described, I also really liked that we got to see a bit more of the human realm in this book.
I loved the depth given to the relationships in this book and I also really liked the forging of new ones, that I didn’t even know I was missing.
Villains were absolutely smashed out the park and made me hate them with every fibre of my being. No redeeming qualities in eyes and I hope that they will all be getting their comeuppances.
The writing flowed really well and I found it very easy to read. I thought the story picked up the further we went through but I never felt like it was dragging at any point. I was completely hooked!
If you love a dark fantasy with a sprinkling of spicy romance, then this is the series for you! If you haven’t read it, you absolutely have to!
