I started out loving this book. But then it seemed like there were too many stories being told and she hurried to finish it...the closure was a bit abrupt. Really amazing artwork and story-telling, though. I loved how the flashbacks had distinctive illustrations so that it was easy to follow.

I hope it's not belittling to say this book is ADORABLE (it also gets pretty deep). Just thinking about the fact that it has blurbs from Rachel Maddow, Beth Ditto, Michelle Tea, Alison Bechdel and Eileen Myles blows my mind, also. That is like the greatest accomplishment I can imagine. I pretty much can't think of anyone I know/like who wouldn't enjoy it. A side note, this made me think back to what a bad job I did of living in Portland. The people in this book do SUCH a good job of living in Portland.

felt kinda lackluster about this until literally the last five pages or so, at which point I had my rib cage stomped on. holy shit.

I was really excited for this graphic novel, but I felt kind of let down by the end. Nicole J. Georges seems like someone I would really like, her art is fun, and as someone who struggled to come out to their own family, I was interested in seeing that part of the memoir.

But, as I have seen in another review, things felt very...surface level...? There were so many important and even dark and traumatizing events recorded, but it felt almost like a shallow record rather than a memoir exploring what happened and how it affected the author. Dictionary definition of diary versus journal.

I still enjoyed parts, I just felt disappointed I didn't love it as much as I thought I would. I might give her other works a try, though.

Got this book from my sister this morning as a Christmas present. I’d never heard of it before and I actually really enjoyed it. I’d like to get reading more graphic novels this year!

Another fantastic graphic memoir about life as a lesbian with various quirky interests and a dysfunctional family.

If you enjoyed Fun Home or I’m Glad My Mom Died this is a similar read, with themes of abusive/manipulative parents in a graphic novel format. I thought it was an interesting read!
