Did not finish. Actually barely got into it. Then the ebook crashed my phone. I figured that was telling me it wasn't worth the effort.

Imagine this classic switched-at-birth situation (names and time periods ignored): The director of “Twister” picks up the script for “Inception.” On day one of filming, the A.D. pleads “But boss, this seams to be a film about dreams-inside-of-dreams-inside-of-dreams” and the prideful director, refusing to own up to the clearly near-sighted mistake replies “Nope! It’s a tornado movie! ROLE CAMERA!” [For realsies, the calls to my mother and moments shared with my cat whilst inside this beautiful, exhausting, exhaustive maelstrom were more the precious to me, though COMPLETELY unexplainable to them.]

I read this book over the course of four months and I’m still processing the experience. It’s not everyday I read a book that includes 2 of my research interests of the Gnadenhutten Massacre and Little House on the Prairie. I absolutely loved it.

It’s been almost 6 months and I think about this book multiple times every week. The further out from the truly grueling reading experience the more I appreciate this book.

It took me ages to finish this, I've interrupted the reading and came back to it, reading other books in the meantime, taking this back up after weeks at the time.

Coming back to it feels like coming back to an old friend, a shy old friend that is finally opening up for the first time. There's so much to learn as the narrator slowly opens up as a flower blossoming, letting the reader peak into the most untold weaknesses and fears that no one ever lets out. There are so many things to learn, time becomes vague, it's not clear when things happened or how slow time passes.

The lioness' bits at first left me a bit confused and I didn't find them to bring anything to the novel, but by the last one I finally got it.

I do feel that I missed out due to not ever have had too much exposure to what it means to live and grow up in the US - some of the references were very cultural and I feel I couldn't appreciate them completely.

I enjoyed what I read, but it takes a lot of focus to read this book and I don't currently have that focus. I've had to accept that I probably won't have that focus for a long, long time.
