It was sweet. A diligent, oblivious scholar who just doesn’t get the increasingly unsubtle hints and signals being sent his way.

There’s always a little feeling of wondering if I’ve missed some subtext in the R. Cooper books I’ve read.

And yeah, the cover is…well, it got my attention and got me to read the book?

This is really a 6 star book.  So, so good.  I stayed up all night reading A Suitable Consort.  Mattin is the sweetest & I love him to pieces <3  This book just made me so happy - so much casual queerness & gender equality & a beautiful romance.  I love it too much for any coherence lol

The story was good and the characters enjoyable. It tended to drag at times, but it wasn't too bad.

The biggest issue for me, and minus stars, was the formatting. There are *no* chapters, just page breaks. For someone like me who likes to peek ahead, this kinda drove me batty. The paragraphs weren't indented either, just a small space between each one. There was also a tendency to have *long* paragraphs, so at times it was difficult to read, especially when one paragraph took up nearly the whole page.

First of all: Close your eyes to the ridiculous book cover. I don't know what was happening here but it must be addressed. Maybe view it as high camp or something.

This story is incredibly sweet and funny. Truly the manifestation of that meme text exchange where person 1 asks person 2 how they should confess their love. And once they do that person 2 responds with yeah exactly good luck with the person you actually want. Just that person 1 is actually a married couple including the king and person 2 is the court librarian pining away all while forgetting that he is a minor noble and therefore fulfilling the criteria for joining that marriage. There are some background shenanigans about power grabs at court but the main focus is just the married guys trying their best to flirt and seduce and it is glorious. Such a fantastic read. Just close your eyes to the cover. :)

An unexpected delight. Grabbed this one on a whim, not sure if I've ever read the author before but I'll undoubtedly be trying them again. I am kind of hard to please when it comes to angst, but the levels and type definitely fit my preferences. It also contained skulduggery (a fave) without letting political plotting overwhelm the story. Finally, I like oblivious characters when I can understand WHY they're oblivious.
