A Beauty and the Beast x Hades and Persephone crossover with that amazing unicorn on the cover had me intrigued from the start. I haven't read any of the other Immortal Vices and Virtues books and although characters are referenced this is a standalone.
Savannah Rivers is a new to me narrator and I loved her performance; she really brought out the humour and warmth in Raegan as well as her stubbornness and the lullaby scene made me a little emotional listening to it. This story really works as a duet and I loved the chemistry between Rivers and the other narrator, Stephen Borne, as Caius.
The humour in this is great from the grave digging, to the corgi to the crochet. The pacing was a little rushed for me towards the end however I loved that Caius worked for his relationship with Raegan and it wasn't just insta-love due to a mate bond. The side characters are great too; Styx and her words of wisdom were a highlight (I'd love to read more about her) as were the numerous cousins. I'd also love a little more context surrounding the prologue as the primordials sounded really intriguing. Overall a great first entry into the Shadow Shifter series.
My interpretation of the star system;
3 stars - I enjoyed it; would read the author again
4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series
5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely until I finished it and it is one I will re-read

A surprising 5⭐️ loved this!
Absolutely obssessed with this one!!
I loved the banter we saw from the characters right from the get go. It made for a very quick and easy read!
I loved the writing style, and the world building and the characters and the relationships between the characters.
And holy hell did I fall in love with Caius!
I was adamant I knew who the betrayal was from, but when I got to the scene to finding out, my jaw dropped! I wasn't surprised but I was!
This is for sure going in my top reads of the year!!

I purchased the Butterfly book club subscription with the special edition version of this book and just firstly to say how beautiful the cover redesign is. Honestly 2 dust jackets and a beautiful naked cover.
Now onto the book. The storyline gripped me from the very start of the prologue. I feel that the authors captured the audience and knew just how to hook you in.
However, I did have trouble with the female MC - Reagan. I just found her annoying until at least half way through the book. She was unreasonable, argumentative, showed zero empathy and lacked seeing things from other points of view. It wasn't stubbornness, I just felt that she would never accept or attempt to understand someone else's point of view, even when her own cousin points out her faults.
She does seem to adapt about half way through the book and I found myself enjoying her POV more.
The book truly did take me on an emotional journey, I laughed out loud, I got upset and I smiled along with the characters. And wow I do enjoy Caius as a male MC.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the roller coaster the authors took me on, and whilst it's part of a series, it is a standalone so the others don't have to be read beforehand.
Solid 4 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was such a fun read! I loved the push/pull between Raegan and Caius! She fought the mate bond hard and that was nice to see for a change! The doll at the end made me laugh so hard 😂 Can't wait for the shadow corgi story!
Mate Me by Kel Carpenter and Aurelia Jane is a shifter god romantasy that I listened to on audio narrated by Savannah Rivers and Stephen Borne. This book is set in the Immortal Vices and Virtues universe and can be read as a standalone.
This is the first book of Kel and Aurelia's that I have read, and it won't be my last. I really enjoyed the relationship that bloomed between Caius and Reagan. I loved getting both of their points of views throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.
Stephen and Savannah did an amazing job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.
I would recommend this book if you're looking for a shifter romance, God romance, or fantasy romance.
