La vita impossibile

I don't know exactly how to classify this book, but I'm going to dub it "inspirational fantasy." I didn't care for the fantastical side of it so much, maybe because I was simply expecting something different, and that's on me. I did appreciate the overarching theme of the story, wherein the main character is able to renew her lease on life through reluctantly discovering a greater purpose and supernatural ability. Grace is a charming and relatable protagonist. I know nothing about Ibiza, so it was interesting to gain some knowledge of it through the character's POV, but the villain being "big tourism" had a plodding effect on my reading experience. I don't know, it felt like the plot of Yellowstone to me and just made me yawn. This book was mostly enjoyable; however, I don't plan on adding it to my re-read pile.

DID NOT FINISH

I will always find an old british lady protagonist endearing but with the context of the midnight library the messaging of this felt kind of cheesy / soapboxy to me

This book took so long to finish because I kept preferring to look at my phone than read this book which is always an indicator to me that I don’t love this book. The last 100 pages picked up steam. Interesting concept about Grace’s powers. Glad to be done so I can move on to the next book.

Fun story about a retired maths teacher who is faced with a whole new reality and rises to the challenge. Lots of riffs on mathematics and natural sciences throughout.

I love stories like this. Uplifting, odd, a heavy pinch of magical realism, and gall darn it if I don't love an old person main character. Audiobook was phenomenal, btw. Also there's a goat named Nostradamus.
