I really did not expect to love these books as much as I do, I am so happy that there are still two more ahead because I really can't get enough of Sam, Ryan, Gary and my favorite gentle giant, Tiggy.

The books are dripping with adventure and humor at almost every page, TJ really has a way to suck you into the pages and make you feel part of the adventure.

I finish this and the first book of the series in 4 days, it wasn't light reading but because I felt like I was held by the throat and it pulled on my heart strings, I completely devoured them in 2 days each.

Pick this book up, you won't regret it!

“It’s not how wishing works. If we got everything we ever wished for, we wouldn’t have the capacity to be thankful for all the things we’d already been given. I’ve got so much already. I don’t ever want to lose sight of why it’s important.”

This was so funny. Like I had to actively try to stop myself from smiling when I was listening to this on the bus.

An epic world, a prophesy involving dragons, and hilarious banter with the group.

Michael Lesley did a perfect job narrating.

I didn’t like this book as much as the first one, but the ending got me really curious for what’s next for Sam and his friends. so i will definitely continue with The Consumption of Magic very soon!

What in the plot twists did I just get done reading?! I swear the last chapter before the epilogue was just out for blood or woke up and chose chaos. Keeping this spoiler free I’m just going to leave it at that. This book took me so long to read for no reason other than I fall out of fantasy quite easily. I liked the first book better, however, this still had such an amazing sense of humor and I am here for it.

Wonderful! All the stars from me! This is darker than the first book but in a good way. Reading the last three chapters had my heart pounding with anticipation. I love these characters SO GODSDAMN MUCH! I expect tears and hardship since this is TJ Klune, but I also expect love and smiles and laughter.

TJ Klune is my favorite author, I've said it before, I need to say it again.

Now excuse me while I go start book 3 before it kills me.

There is just something special about Sam and co.—their shenanigans, their sass, their mis-adventures, their love for each other—it’s all so much fun. The Lightning-Struck Heart was a treat, and now the series (Tales from Verania) is set up to be the gift that keeps on giving in A Destiny of Dragons. Best of all, it’s got some length to it, which I always find super exciting. Thank you, TJ Klune!

So, all the things we loved about TLSH are alive and well in A Destiny of Dragons. The writing is hilarious and irreverent. It feels like both a send up of and an homage to the fantasy genre. I loved it, and frequently found myself cackling crazily while making my way through the story. The characters continue to be awesome, with deepening relationship dynamics for all—so clearly, some wrenches have to be thrown in there. The resulting tension sets off cascades of snark in all directions that are truly a joy to behold. And the glorious drama all plays out against Sam’s struggle with his destiny. The team, as a whole, is getting mobilized to address said destiny with Sam, and they strike out on the beginnings of the resultant Epic Quest™.

So obviously, there are going to be more books after this one (eeeeeeeee!), and like any first book in a trilogy, there’s a lot of groundwork getting laid here. What’s Sam’s destiny? How does that work? What’s a cornerstone? How does THAT work? Who the heck is this man of shadows, what the heck does he even want? But don’t be concerned that all these questions lead to an overabundance of navel-gazing or exposition. TJ Klune keeps the pace rolling and the sarcasm on tap. And while there’s plenty of road left to travel in the following books, there is a satisfactory ending to A Destiny of Dragons, so the reader doesn’t end up feeling like everything’s still in the air after the final page.

Also, A++ on all the new characters (one in particular, but NO SPOILERS).

All told, A Destiny of Dragons is the perfect summer read. It’s got action! Adventure! Romance! Danger! Hilarity! Snark! I could keep throwing things at you like a second-rate movie announcer, but really you just need to go get this book. It’s perfect to read now, then revisit in a couple months when we get the delicious, delicious audio.

*happy sigh* This book.

It was ridiculous, happy, incredibly bawdy, funny, OVER THE TOP, hilarious, once again the crackiest book to ever crack, but also like 30% serious, angsty --> the choked-up-with-tears type, and at times plain heartachy (but God bless TJ, the heartache doesn't last long because otherwise we'd all drown in tears)

So, Sam finds out that he has a Destiny (Capitalized because that makes it true) thanks to his gypsy grandma, Vadoma, who comes to Verania and warns him that the fate of the world rests in his hands because there's a PROPHECY! VISIONS! and talks with STAR DRAGONS! and since she's the helpful sort, she also brings with her the one and only Ruv, a might-be-might-not-be cornerstone. Yaaay, am I right?

Ofc, Sam promptly tells her to fuck off since the only destiny he has is "a destiny of dick" and just wishes to be happy with his Beloved Ryan. However, things happen and once Sam realizes that the threat is a genuine one, he decides to gather up all the prophesied dragons and take his destiny in his own hands giving one of this most badass speech so far <3

“I have seen things in this life that defy logic. I have stretched the boundaries of my magic more than you can possibly imagine. I have done things in the name of the people I love and would do so again without regret. And even if the dark man comes for me, even if he tries to take from me, I will have my family at my side fighting with me, for me, every step of the way. And there is nothing you or Ruv or your people can say that would change my mind. Ryan Foxheart is my godsdamned cornerstone. I won’t let anything happen to him. You say you’ve seen the paths I will walk? Fuck you. Because I’m about to blaze my own fucking path, and you won’t even see me coming."

"S.H + R.F. = TRUELOVE 4EVA"

"You best believe me when I say that I will see that stone turn to dust before I let anything happen to him. I don’t care what Vadoma says. I don’t care what the star dragon says. He’s not going anywhere.”
“Chills,” Zero whispered. “So many chills. I want someone to love me the way you love him.”

Ryan and Sam are AMAZING. I think they are my favourite m/m couple. I loved, loved that they are so settled in their love for one another and that, not even once, was Ruv a serious threat for their relationship (not even a mild one). They are so obviously made for each other *fangirling* Ofc, Ryan's jealousy made awesome material for crackish scenes that had me grinning like a fool but their heart-to-heart scenes omg, I must've highlighted every single one because it's SO GENUINE AND LOVELY AND ADORABLE and it makes me melty-melt & hug my kindle to my chest. #notevenkidding

“I meant it, Sam. Every word. It’s always been you for me. I loved you even before I knew what it meant. That’s why.”

"But, dude, I love Ryan Foxheart. Like, I can’t even begin to tell you how much. Well, okay. Maybe I can. I used to disguise myself and go to Ryan Foxheart Fan Club meetings with teenage girls. One time, we talked about his biceps for six hours. I’m not even joking.”

“I will stop this, whatever it is. And then I’ll figure out the rest. I’d rather be with him without my magic than be with him and have it."

Other high points included:

- Tiggy ( “Lord Tiggy, King of Brooms and Happy.")

- Garyyyy our favourite trashy, slutty, borderline inappropriate stabby unicorn ("I’m the unicorn equivalent of a princess.")

-Jekhipe ehmm wait Zero Ravyn Moonfire meaning the cutest, adorkable, emo teenager dragon eeeverr

"Are you… are you pouting?” I asked, incredulous.
“I’m allowed to pout,” Jekhipe said, sounding morose. “I’m in pain and everything is really lame right now, okay? Gods.”

Bottom line: This book was amazing and I'm sure I'll re-re-read it until CoM comes out in October. If you want a HAPPY book, this is it.
