No less inappropriate, heartfelt, hilarious, and gut-punching than the first book in this series. I love seeing the connections Sam has with his rag-tag group of heroes, and how incredibly deep those connections go. We see Sam start to fray a bit in this book after he learns of the prophecy set upon him. A heavy burden of saving the world, or dooming everyone he loves to death. A personal burden of realizing the possibility of losing his love and his cornerstone is greater than he let himself believe. The knowledge that things have been kept from him his entire life by the people he trusted the most. Really fantastic follow up that ends on a cliffhanger, and I can't wait to see where it goes next!

No book has ever made me laugh as hard as this series. The sheer absurdity of a talking unicorn, a lovely half-giant, a talking dragon named Kevin, a young man who attracts trouble and horny villains wherever he goes, and his knight in shining armour - what could go wrong?

The first book was fantastic. This one was even better, if much less angsty. It certainly showed Sam's maturity (ignoring all his constant sex jokes). I'm sort of glad the story didn't end here and I'm excited to continue the sequel with this group of completely ridiculous friends.

I am a conflicted woman. These books are so great and so very awful at the same time. The overt sexual humour is painful to me, but at the same time, the friendship and love and other humour is brilliant.

I don't know. I just don't know.

AHHHH--TJ Klune has done it again. Do you know how many times I was saying to my boyfriend, "Dammit, TJ Klune has me all up in my feelings again"?? M A N Y.

In the sequel to THE LIGHTNING-STRUCK HEART, TJ Klune swoops in with a brilliant, sprawling tale of Sam's next chapter: finding out his true destiny. Spoiler: it's about dragons; second spoiler: Sam hates having it so much he shuts himself in his room for a while. This second book comes with a return of favourite characters: Gary, Tiggy, Kevin, the wonderful lovable trio (complete with their standard inappropriateness) that had me sobbing with laughter to the point of being speechless; there was Morgan, whose character was more delved into in this book, plus the rooted-for best couple, Ryan and Sam. I was distantly worried I wouldn't love them as much as I did in the first book, with the trope of slow-burn and mutual pining absolutely rife then, but I loved them just as much--if not more for how their relationship develops and settles in a dynamic that gets so wonderfully explained. Along with usual favourites, there are new character introductions that throw many spanners into the works: Sam's grandmother, who comes with a man claiming to be Sam's true cornerstone (which incites MUCH jealousy from Ryan that I enjoyed reading); as well as a new dragon (to fall in love with), and a shadowed character who has only just begun their devastation on Sam's story.

Going beyond the limits of Verania, A DESTINY OF DRAGONS sees Sam enlist the help of the five known dragons. He ventures to his grandmother's desert town to find the desert dragon, who turns out to be quite the opposite of what everyone thinks. But there, Sam realises his story is only just unfolding and the wizard he needs to be is so much greater than he assumed.

With his usual witty sexually-centred one-liners, scenes, and foul-mouthed characters, TJ Klune draws readers back into Verania with a story I read in almost one sitting because it was *just that good*. The story's standard only climbs higher and higher, starting off impossibly high anyway. Somehow, this man's work just gets better with each literal sentence.

Side notes: I love how TJ Klune uses old jokes from the first book without them being too over-used or "recycled". He reminds a reader of the beautiful dynamic of found family through these jokes, and how, for all their friendly bickering and banter, the characters would ultimately die for each other (although if they actually have to I'll goddamn SWING).

With a beautiful blend of angst, sadness, the real sense of loss Sam might have to face, and charm, TJ Klune left me aching to read the third book and practically devour Sam's whole journey.

Unsurprisingly The Best Book Ever

Absolutely more brilliant than the first. This book was so human and real to me that I often had to stop reading to collect my thoughts.

Klune's writing only gets better. My only worry is the repetitive streak of conversations that sometimes go on for far too long and are often hard to get through, although some of them are amazing and funny and definitely worth it.

I was gripped by this book by it's sheer force alone
I loved the human nature of our characters, of loss and the seriousness of destiny. Sam realizes now that death is real and is coming and we still arent sure if he can save everyone.

I stayed up till five in the morning because I was entranced. I love this story and I love these characters and I continue to love everything that Klune brings to the table. And I am not ready for the next book.

Still a fun series, although it felt like this one didn't really have a middle or end, it took so long to get underway. The characters are as funny as usual and our protagonist is starting to show some seriously interesting choices. I do feel a little like the shtick is being overdone in this book though at times.

I liked this better than the first book, felt there was a better balance of humor imo and there were actual stakessssss let’s gooooooo

Also, cmon Morgan you have 2 more books to go! (I am still fully convinced he will die.)
