LJ Shen has a knack for writing brooding, hateful bad boys thst we all fall in love with. And Vicious fit that trope to a tee. Her story had a deeper plot than most, and was beautiful in not just the traditional sense. I liked that the characters were older than some of Shen's other work. I think two things stood out for me: one, the burn took forever. It was 50 percent of the book before even a kiss - and honestly, it felt too long. Second, I was not a fan of Emilia. I didnt like her style. I didn't like her personality. She felt a bit shallow, especially running alongside a main man who was so deep.
he was bullying her all her life and they still got together?

ORIGINAL REVIEW:
I was completely addicted to this book from the very first page. Vicious is a bully romance so it's not for everybody and I too can see a lot of flaws and toxic things in this book, but I am willing to overlook them, because I had the best time reading about Vicious and Emilia and I read this book in like 4 hours. I couldn't put it down. Me and my family were on a trip but I totally didn’t care about that. I picked up my book and read the whole time.
There isn't anything special about the story itself, but there is something about the characters. They had so much charisma and I was drawn to it a lot. I needed to know what was next for them. I'm also not the biggest fan of flashbacks but here all I wanted was their story from ten years ago. The present was no less entertaining which was great and I just loved getting further and further into this novel.
Emilia was a likeable character. She took care of her sister and she had to be the strong one in the family. She had a really hard time because of Vicious and I applaud her for being so strong. She sometimes frustrated me because she acted so reckless around Vic but I would act like that too if he was around me. I liked how she stood her ground at the end because she seemed a little too forgiving but she pulled through at the end.
Vicious was a thougher egg to crack because I kept changing my mind about him. Some times I absolutely loved him and some times I wanted to kill him.
But what I understand is that he was written as an unlikeable character and he was supposed to be an asshole and a jerk and that nothing, not even a girl would change that. He did some shady things but that was just him. He was cunning and even cruel, but I did not care, because in the end he got what he wanted. He didn't change he just became more cautious about people around him and his behaviour.
Of course there were times where I thought Vic really went over the line and acted really posessive and emotionally abusive. He did terrible things to Em and if I were her I would never stay with him. He would be gone in a second.
The steam in this book was perfect. It was so well done. The anticipation was probably the best part. There was so much chemistry between Vic and Em. And I was eating up everything written on that page.
I liked the second story line about Vicious' family too. It was interesting to read about and it was a nice break between the romance.
Overall I had such a great time with this book. I really want to read the other books too. The story was readable, easy to follow, entertaining and a lot of fun. The romance was fantastic and the characters were addicting. Really loved this book
1ST REREAD:
This book fucks me up so much. I mean it's so addicting and good.
I wanted to read this book again the moment I finished it and I couldn't hold off any longer. I love this story so much. The characters, the romance, all the flaws and problems. I love it all.
When I read this book first time I focused on all the problematic stuff and acknowleged it a lot. But this time I just said fuck it and read it for what it was with no judgment and that was a great choice.
I also appreciate Emilia a lot more. She was truly just trying to get through her life and provide for her and her sister and she had to accept Vicous' offer. And I love how she stood up for herself at the end. It gets me every time.
Vicious is literally EVERYTHING. That man is absolutely insane. He is so vicious. Like truly. He gets everything he wants without hesitating and in a blink of an eye. And he is so so atractive because of his charisma.
And THE ENDDDD. That last part of the book kills me and heals me at the same time. It's so beautiful and thoughtful. Vicious understood that he had to change his behaviour. But mostly he realized that he loved Em and that made him act differently because from that point on it wasn't just about Emilia as someone he could sleep with but it was about her as a real human being and somebody he wanted to spend his life with.
The fact that he walked her home every day just to know she was safe even though she didn’t talk to him was killing me and what he did to stay in New York prooved his love. And I just can't. He's just wow.
And yeah that's it. I am deceased. Bye.
2ND REREAD:
Vicious is fucking HILARIOUS, idk how I forgot to mention it before but this guy is the funniest asshole ever. I mean in the first 30 pages he made me die from laughter. His humour is dark and sarcastic which is basicaly my vibe and I loved it so much. And the fact that he isn't even trying to be funny kills me.
I love this book a lot, like a whole lot and I'm preparing for Angry God so it's a given to reread the story of the parents and the OG bully himself. I wasn't paying that much attention to this book but man, it still gets me every time. The ending is something I can reread a thousand times and not get sick of it.
Everybody says that Vicious is a really rough bully romance but that's what I love so much. Vic is so so so mean and in Em's place I would never in a million years be with him but this is just a story, it's fiction and it's so well done and addicting to read.
3RD REREAD:
Still just as good as I remembered.
Top tier bully romance with some of the best grovelling at the end and now I'm gonna read Angry God again.
L. J. Shen is not my favorite author but I would take this book to the grave with me.

This book reminds me so much of the kinds of stories I use to read on wattpad such a long time ago.
I think that’s one of the main reasons why I really enjoyed this book and I was able to finish it in one go. The characters are not boring what so ever and the drama and chaos chefs kiss!
Very enjoyable I highly recommend it to anyone who loves bad boy/good girl kind of vibes.

This book y’all!! Vicious and Emilia. I love them. Vicious is such an a-hole. And yet I love him. He’s so unapologetically an ass and I love the journey he goes through and how he navigates his relationship and his feelings for Emilia. Emilia on her part, has a journey of her own. When these two are together it is so fire!! I love every interaction they have. How they hate-love each other. I love their banter. I love it all.
I love the flow of this book. I love how she weaves in the flashbacks. I love how each interaction leaves you wanting more. Read this book!!!!

Jesus I hated this more than anything in my life.
this review has some spoilers but to be honest, it is not worth the spoiler tags
Did this book make me nauseous? Yes.
Did I hate every single character in this book? Yes.
Was it addictive? Surprisingly yes.
(I should give it 2 stars because the writing was pretty good, it was hard to put down and the characters were consistently bad but I just can't)
I always avoided the "bully romance" phase but for some reason I wanted to try at least one book from this horrible genre. So, I only have myself to blame. I knew this wasn't my thing but I thought "How bad can it be??"
Well.
I have read some messed up romances (paranormal, barbarian, even alien romances) but this was on a whole another level. Vicious, our handsome bully is a mean asshole because he has daddy issues. He would hurt his friends, strangers and the girl he loved because he was just cool like that. His only explanation for his actions was "I am an asshole". Well, you didn't have to tell me that.
He kisses the heroine's sister to make her jealous, he blackmails her multiple times, he calls her names for the majority of the book but at 80% of the book he realizes that he has been doing all this because he was in love with this girl all along. OF COURSE he is in love with her. NOW everything makes sense and we can just forgive him. The funny thing is he doesn't even apologize for everything he put this poor girl go through. He actually has the audacity to blame her for trying to move on from him. And you might be wondering, why is this girl not calling the police? It's very obvious you see, because her bully is handsome and she is attracted to him.
I think the biggest reason why even thinking about this book makes my head hurt is because Vicious was such a realistic douchebag. I am okay with villains as love interests but Vicious wasn't a villain. He was mean just to hurt people. He didn't have an ulterior motive or a plan, he just liked hurting people. Maybe if Emilia was actually a messed up character as well, I would have enjoyed this more. She was so naive and acting so stupidly that I felt sorry for the girl the whole time. He didn't even grovel at the end to win her back. She was too ready for him to be back.
I guess that concludes my 2 day journey to bully romance. 2 days too many.

why it took me so long to read this book? why i didn't find this book sooner? why?
The writing, the storyline was really good. The characterisation was great it made you fall in love with the main characters even if vicious was a bully.
The only thing missing was more sex and more details about the sex scenes lol
