In Explaining Humans, Dr Camilla Pang talks us through some neat concepts from the world of science, maths, and computing, and how she uses these (as someone with autism and ADHD) to puzzle out the world around her. It's less "how humans work" and more "these are frameworks that can help you understand them." If you're looking for the former, this probably isn't the book for you. Otherwise, it's both an interesting insight into the author's neurodivergence, and a plain-English introduction to game theory, neural networks, thermodynamics and such.

I'm a bit confused by some of the reviews. The title doesn't imply to me that this is some sort of manual to describe all humans, nor does the blurb. This book gives an insight into how one individual explains humans and the links she makes with her understanding of science to enable her to do that.
Some of the science was way over my head. Some of the explanations made no sense to me. But then I am not the individual who is doing the writing, certainly it helped me to understand a little more about how she saw the world.

I think that this is a valuable book for people with similar struggles and strengths as Pang, although it doesn't seem to be for everyone. I found the metaphors enlightening as someone who also doesn't quite get people or society, and there were many pieces of advice that I'll definitely consider in the future.

I felt like it would be wrong to rate this book without leaving a review.
Overall I found the book an enjoyable read that contained some interesting ideas and good key principles.
Although I did find the science over simplified and some of the metaphors weak i feel like this book would be valuable to many and was definitely unique.
