I thought the pacing of this book was just okay and would work better as a tv show or movie. I would have probably loved this book when I was younger, but overall it was just okay.

A lot of people seemed to not like this book due to its lack of originality. Was this book a mixture of other ya dystopian novels (hunger games, selection, prodigy, X-men)? Yes, however I strangely digged it. The authors writing was interesting and kept me entertained. Looking forward to book 2!

I only write vague reviews. Really enjoyed the story, lost me a bit in the middle but picked up in the end.

Maybe I'm a little older than the demographic. I didnt enjoy the writing and the narrator was very repetitive as if a clue or advice said was the key to the book. "Anyone can betray anyone" yeah I got it thanks.
The main character didn't really ever do anything herself. Most things were done because of other people having the power to do stuff.
The romance didn't make sense because she fell in love with her oppressors. Hate to see it.
The evil villian speech was lame. His motives were jealousy. Pfft. And in the Mare didn't say anything about her people's oppression and pain but rather how she almost kinda liked Mavin. And that would be fine if she was trying to talk her way out of prison but she wasn't.
I don't think they talk at all about the ways that the red people could actually be help. How to rebuild their communities.
It's an allegory for racism yet many opertinities to talk about how to actually help the systemic issues fell we "you can help!" "I wish things were different". Rather than talk about education, buildings, electricity, the fantasy equivalent to Jim crow laws.
There were non of the opertinites to talk about how minorities are made to be dehumanized or the how people can believe such things about another human being.
It's just if your gonna make racism your books fantasy idea, actually talk about racism.

Interesting story but not sure if I like the love triangle.
