Catriona Ward

This book went in a completely different direction than I originally anticipated. Catriona Ward knocked it out of the park with this one and I love her other work. It's a story within a story within a story but interestingly the reader isn't confused. A teenage Wilder comes to Maine for the summer with his parents and makes friends with Nat and Harper. The trio's friendship, the traumatic events of the summer, impact Wilder and these friends for the rest of their lives. They're intermingled forever and it marks them. When Wilder gets to college, reeling and suffering from PTSD from the summer's events,  he makes a single friend Sky. Their relationship impacts him in ways that imprint the rest of his life. One of the biggest themes of the book is "who owns the story?" I was enthralled by that idea. It's a beautifully written novel and I absolutely adored it.

Not understanding why this would be labeled horror. Absolutely nothing scary. Stories within stories and the reader is in the story too? ooooooohhhh *spooky music*
Honestly, the characters were not fleshed out, the story was not compelling. It was mostly just annoying.

I enjoyed the first half A LOT. Then The next part started ok / promising but I did not enjoy the end resolution.

The book blurb has wayy too much information, glad I went in blind.
