Super meta book. In this book we have Wilder, Nat and Harper, three friends in the same summer village. Turns out that Nat’s dad is a serial killer and that Nat had been terrorising the community breaking into houses and taking photos with sleeping children holding a knife. We then have books within books, where Wilder has his memoir stolen and college and published by someone else. This person then dies a lot later so Wildet returns to the town to finally write his own story. Turns out though that he’s just a character in someone else’s book and that he actually died when he was still in college. All very story within a story, on many levels

So many people have commented that this book is not a horror, and they are correct that there are no jump scares or monsters, but the premise of the book is much scarier if you enjoy reading and literature. This author truly understand how to create an eerie mood and suspense. While some parts were slow, there was always an edge of anxiety that kept me wondering what will happen next. I greatly enjoyed the book within a book!

Horror roman met veel spanning, onverwachte wendingen en geschifte personages. Ik had er iets helemaal anders van verwacht en dat bedoel ik als compliment!
Plezant seg.

Catriona Ward never fails to absolutely astonish me with her talent and while this isn’t my favourite book of hers, it’s still absolutely amazing. The way she weaves all the different elements of the story together is really what makes the book, it’s just done so effortlessly. And the story itself is just absolutely horrifying and gut wrenching and the twists and turns will blow your mind!

Didn’t love this one. I enjoy a book where you can’t trust the narrator but this felt confusing for me.

Very strange meta-fiction. I’m not sure it worked, but it definitely kept me interested.

Catronia Ward must be a genius. She comes up with the craziest, twisty plots packed with atmosphere and Looking Glass is one of her twisty-ist books yet. While I liked this one, a huge part of the plot revolves around repetition of the plot and I felt it made the middle of the book one long slog, especially as the set up took a long time to gather steam. I found myself skimming along for most of the last 2/3rds. The ending was a good gut punch and very very creative.
