I was so fooled by the cover and synopsis. I had such high expectations, and maybe that's the problem. I hated this book. Not because of the characters, but the way it was written, structured, and the gross insta love with Holly and Aiden. I love the relationship between Holly and Ivy. Honestly, their friendship is the reason I even finished the story and rated this 2 stars. Everything else was awful. The relationship between the girls and the two guys was surface level at best. Because of the way the book was split, there wasn't time to develop the girls with the guys. I just got so irritated. Of course I didn't buy Holly being in love with Aiden so quickly. It felt disingenuous to her character and her own feelings and statements. Overall, not what I wanted.

In this book, readers follow the story of Holly Beach and Ivy Casey. Holly is a nerdy introverted old soul who doesn't particularly enjoy the holidays. We then learn that Holly and Ivy met because their boyfriends belong to the same fraternity. It doesn't take long for Holly and Ivy to spark a conversation and bond over their mutual interest in wine and other topics. Ivy opens up to Holly about her upbringing and her doubts about the longevity of her relationship.
Fast-forward to the present day and Holly is planning her Christmas season wedding to Matt. The night before the wedding, Matt ends the engagement. To help Holly heal from the situation, the besties devise a plan for Holly to go on Ivy's art retreat, whereas Ivy will go on Holly's island honeymoon. They both run into snags due to their identities, but they both enjoy themselves and find love on their respective vacations.
Overall, this book is super adorable. It loosely reminds me of my favorite movie, The Holiday. Side note: We all deserve a best friend like Ivy. Well done, Julia McKay.
