Simple with a twist.

I hope Jon Klassen keeps writing children's books! Read this and his first one [b:I Want My Hat Back|11233988|I Want My Hat Back|Jon Klassen|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327888784s/11233988.jpg|16160067]. Just do it. Now. I don't care how old you are.

Just as astonishing as the first read.

Perfect deep sea thriller for a quick book shop date

Super cute, but I like the first book 1-star better.

So adorable, a great read alongside I Want My Hat Back

On my first day of work at the library the other week, the awesome lady showing me the ropes pointed out this book as we were walking through the children's section and said it was good and I should read it. I took note of the title and.... promptly forgot it soon thereafter. I was pretty confident I'd come across it again, though, and recognize it. I was right! It was on my cart to be shelved today so I very quickly read it. And then read it again. Because... "Wait," I thought. "Did the big fish eat the little fish???"

I then went to shelve it and read the other book by this author I Want My Hat Back which... well, might've cleared things up for me.

This kind of twisted humour both does and doesn't appeal to me. Not sure whether I would've liked these books as a kid, but as an adult they did amuse and interest me, which is more than a picture book usually does. (I liked I Want My Hat Back better, though I'm not sure why exactly. I did actually emit a laugh at the end, I must admit.)

karmic retribution at work. underlining our innate, primal desire to create a perfect life for ourselves, even if it is at the expense of others. no notes

This is a cute, yet kind of dark, book that teaches the reader about stealing and why you shouldn’t do it. It also teaches them to not trust people. Which that part is not a very good lesson to teach because people are trustworthy some of the time and it is helpful to have someone to confide in. The ending is open ended so you can come up with the fate of the fish for yourself. I personally don’t think it was a happy ending. The illustrations are very monotone and bland but the expressions made by the fish are just subtle enough, that they are perfect. This is another book that could be used for kids learning to read. I found the book funny and I could see why it won the Caldecott medal.

hmm...

It was not his hat
