This Is Not My Hat

I read This is Not My Hat. This book is about a little fish that steals a hat from a bigger fish because it fits him better and he likes it. The big fish wakes up and realizes it is gone so he goes to find it and follows closely behind the little fish. The little fish gets to where the seaweed grows tall and close together so no one will find him. He did not know that the big fish was following and knew where he went. The big fish eventually finds him and takes the hat back. The illustrations in this book really tell the story and add a colorful yet dark element to the story. They are graphically designed (Klassen, 2012). I loved this story leaving us in suspense of what happened to the little fish and how did he even steal the big guys hat? I have such fun reading this book to the little kids I nanny and I know my future classroom will love it.

Very playful, cute story.

I especially appreciate the way the pictures tell a slightly different story from the text. Told from the point of view of a little fish who steals a hat from a much bigger fish, the narrative is bold and confident: "he probably won't wake up for a long time" and "he won't know where I am going." Hmmm . . . .

This is Not My Hat is a delightful tale about a fish who steals a hat from a bigger fish. He is sure his theft will go unnoticed and if it doesn't he is sure he can hide from the big fish. I love he confidence of the little fish. I also enjoyed the end where we are not exactly sure what happened. This would be a great way for the kids to continue telling the story.

Occupational hazard of volunteering at a library and getting assigned to the children's room - this was the result. One of the librarians handed this to me and told me to read it. I was laughing hysterically. Excellent, excellent, excellent!

I am not sure what it was about the book that I found so charming! I loved it. Read it at the library today with one of my students, we were giggling and snickering through the whole thing.

Easy read with simple pictures that say a lot. I really enjoyed reading this book.

A very funny book about a fish who stole another fish's hat. The pictures are slightly on the small side so it would make a better one-on-one story.

A boy chose this for me to read at Read Aloud time. (He told me that it was his favorite.) 3/22/14

Really did not go over that well at Baby/Toddler, much better for Preschool to early elementary - used because I had an older toddler come in late.
